idea: you could create a fireplace look by installing a thick shelf with (or without) brackets underneath, and accessorise it like you would above a FP: a large piece of art with objects flanking it. You could stop there, or you could create a candle display or a stack of wood underneath to signal a modern fireplace!

I like this idea of matching the wall colour to a piece of artwork, it has this sort of 'magnifying glass effect', like the frame of the picture is a glass through which you see detail. Very unique.
