Well i actually haven't done anything except boil water so far. I just picked up my DIY fix pieces and installed them today.
I pulled the screws from the cooktop and lifted all the burners onto a dowel rod. Underneath was basically a bit of lazily installed, cheap, foam weatherstripping for dampening. I removed this carefully as to not drop any into the oven. I then cut and installed pieces of high temp, flame resistant, silicone rubber gasket (SNS 100S) from Saint Gobain. This will be much easier to wipe and clean, and it filled those nasty burner gaps.
