I like the cabinets above the bench. Too many entryways/mudrooms have a bench with hooks and cubbies overhead - you could easily wind up sitting on the outerwear.

I wouldn't want a bunch of shoes outside the door, but I also wouldn't mind having a space inside the (most used) door for people to remove their shoes....maybe even some socks/house slippers stored in the same place.
