We did custom Famish cabs for our kitchen (we live in Maryland). I have no regrets. They turned out beautiful and I was very involved in the process. If we had gone semi custom, we would have used DeWilis.

weenie, not in Hagerstown, we are in Annapolis. Hagerstown is a custom builder, they build their own cabinets. We did not use a kitchen designer as we generally knew what we wanted and they put it on paper. However they did provide some suggestions. They do have their own in-house kitchen designer/sale rep that can help you put your ideas on paper and help to come up with solutions and designs. Pricing is all dependent on the size of the kitchen, level of detail you want in your cabinet, wood species, features etc, so what we paid will not necessarily represent what you will pay. I will say that we were able to get kitchen cabinets and two bath vanities (one is a double and cherry, the other is single) for approx. +/-20% less than what we would have spent at Plain and Fancy or the like which only included their basic cabinet box and hardware. Pricing is more in line with some of the Amish builders recommended on here and was a hair above a semi custom builder like Jim Bishop, but the quality is exponentially better. Hagerstown does offer a semi custom line if costs for their custom line prove to prohibitive. They are worth considering, you might be surprised.

I don't know where you live, but you could check into Green Demolitions, or see if there is something like that near you. Here is a link that might be useful: Green Demolitions

Hi Leah....My cabinets are being made by an artisan in Westminster,Maryland. He's a true perfectionist and has been doing wonderful kitchens for years. I would recommend him without any hesitations at all. He's a great guy to work with and his craftsmanship is supreme, especially his finishes. If you want to contact him, his name is Keith Dickson and his contact information is 1750 Solomon Lane, Westminister MD 21157. His phone is 410-848-2457. Fax 410-848-2457 and his email is brirwood@qis.net. He's been recognized by Early American Life Magazine as one of Amercia's top 200 artisans and got one of the only perfect scores in their jurying system....and I also think his prices are great. That's my two cents. Amy

We used Mark Miller, a Plain & Fancy dealer in the Dulles area - the price was much more reasonable than I thought - around $23k for a pretty big kitchen with off-white painted maple cabinets with inset doors.

Warrenton Custom Cabinets located in Fauquier Co. does really nice work at a great price. They made our kitchen cabinets and two bathroom vanities plus they installed our beadboard backsplash and made and installed faux beams on kitchen/ family room ceiling. 540-349-3227

We are in Leesburg and are working with Kitchen Intuition in Warrenton. It's a bit of a hike, but Andrea Rexrode is the owner/designer and is fantastic! I went out to her office once and haven't had to go back again (she's so creative and works well via email if you don't want to go out their too often). I should also mention that I worked with another kitchen designer for about 6 months and was near tears. My builder recommended I contact Andrea and within 2 weeks we were done with the house. She's fantastic (and, we have the same name, so I like her even more!) ha! I'm recommending her bc she actually works with custom cabinet makers and carries a few brands. She's been able to do our entire house for a very reasonable price using a variety of them (high end kitchen with some custom items, but maybe less expensive items for mudroom, laundry, etc). She's definitely worth a call - 540-347-3871 (and, I'm glad to send you what she did for us as well)

I love my cabinets built by Production II. Our design build firm uses them so I hope they can work with you as a "private individual". It's worth a shot! I believe they are in Arlington, VA. Northern Virginia cabinet maker company Production II, Phone (703) 548-8210.

I am doing a kitchen for couple in Reston Va using Bridgewood Custom with frameless base and framed wall. My original quote was to match the material list of Lowes using Shuler. Lowes was 24k and my quote was for 17K. After several design meetings, and measuring the kitchen we learned the original Lowes design was not the correct dimensions. The final price went to 24k for my quoteLowes price would have been higher as they would have had to add several things not in the first quote. I could tell they want to spend less so I gave them my 15% contractors discount and got it to 21k. 2/3 of all the cabinets are custom sized with numerous other options and modifications. Where do people find these businesses that do not take intersts in your projects? I measure all the kitchens I am invited to look at same day most of the time. Next day is the longest it takes. I send designs that include the actual drawings and the material lists and not just a black and white 3d with line item total nor do I charge for the meeting or giving them the full design and line by line MSRP and discount for every needed item. I don't get it. Most businesses in the kitchen and bath world are in the DC area that are not trying to be ultra high end are struggling to stay open the prices are not as high as people still seem to think.
