Lighted stairs

No track lighting!!! Even current styles are horribly dated looking! Such a great opportunity for large lantern type chandeliers as above or something unique and interesting. Pots and tracks are aesthetically bankrupt and your ceiling is so beautiful...here is your chance to highlight it! Style of light is so subjective u should definitely search Houzz archives but all 5 of US immediately agreed to pick beautiful hanging lights(whether simple pendants or chandeliers) that focus on the materials such as metals..,iron, rubbed bronze etc. good luck!

Definitely chandeliers of some kind - keeps the integrity of the beamed look. Would you consider a contemporary lantern - two of them would look balanced.

Always going to suck up light, I'm afraid. Track lights seem the best to me + chandelier + table lamps. Not sure why U do not like track lights. There was a similar discussion, but no conclusion. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/which-lighting-fixture-for-my-living-room-with-vault-ceiling-dsvw-vd~203188 white ceiling fan? I might remove all decorative items from walls and let the walls reflect as much light as possible. I think the photographs and art R sucking up some of the light, too. Also U seem to have quite a bit of furniture in room. Less furniture & less other clutter might allow walls to reflect more light as well. I don't think the rose throw rugs R helping, either. Hanging light?

I don't mind the track lights either. I'd remove the window treatments to let as much natural light in as possible. Layering lighting makes the room light, and cozy. Track, chandelier, sconces and table lamps. Since the ceiling is dark, light flooring, area rugs also brighten things up.

You need up lighting like wall sconces and a touchier or two. If your furniture were much lighter it would help a lot. A large floor mirror across from the windows will throw light up on the ceiling. Basically you need to do the room in light natural linens, cottons and canvas fabrics. This is a great house for slip covered furniture. Painted wood tables and anything else you can put in the room that replaces something you have that is dark.

I've added "up light " with halogen lights on top of the beams. We also routed them in so they would be hidden from view. Mono point lights are an option too.

I should have looked closely at the pics, up lighting here isn't much of an option. I think track lighting is the easiest. Then there is tech lighting. The light heads attach to low voltage wires strung between two points.
