Similarly, I like the way the kitchen is tucked away a bit, but still "open" to the rest of the space.
LIke the wood ceiling and eating area off to the side.
I like the windows above the cabinets. Note: Dropped ceiling is 9', the part with the clerstory windows is 2-1/2' taller.
Note: The celing is a little over 10' tall. The transom windows are 2'-6" wide x 1'-5" tall.

Solution for cabinets that don't go all the way to the ceiling? Inset into the wall.
Like: windows over sink, nothing on top of island, shelves in island.
Nice alternative to a walk-in pantry.
