Consider wood vanities, natural woven elements or, many pros’ favorite, marble. “Marble is our No. 1 favorite material,” says designer Tracy Huntington. “If a client can enjoy a few marks and some wear, marble patinas beautifully over time. It’s a total classic. You can’t go wrong with marble.”

For these spaces, I always look to nature. I recommend using natural materials whenever possible — real stone, wood, plants, etc. The earthy elements balance out the water element, and together they create that spa-like feel that is so nourishing for our mind, body and souls.”

created a calm and inviting space by playing with subtle changes in tone and metal finishes. The slight contrast between the off-white elongated subway tiles and the white tub, the way the warm metal finishes work with the accent color on the shower curtain, and the coordination between the gray grout and the mosaic floor tile give the room a cohesive look and an easygoing vibe.

Merkel ditched the old shower and vanity in favor of a calm and serene palette with light woods, like the hickory wood floating custom vanity, and plenty of white. The warm white walls are Cloud Cover by Benjamin Moore. “We have it throughout our house. It’s our favorite color,” Lacey says.

Sass continued the tiles up to the vaulted ceiling, just as she did in the shower. Finding the right lighting was tricky because the pendants had to be mounted on the sloped ceiling at different heights. The design of these long brass-and-glass pendants made it possible for them to hang at the same level. The way they hang in front of the mirror adds dimension, and the reflection increases the amount of light they bring into the room.
