Show to Contractor
This has two types of timber features that at least seem like they could be less expensive--crossing beams and brackets. I've seen even the brackets alone and am open to that if needed! Would the timbers from our old cabin work in the crossing (front & back). They are currently under the snow and we hope they will still be in good shape.
Do you ever see drivable grass (these are concrete plantable pavers) or something like this in Utah? I've just wondered if we should think creatively on that lower parking. I'm also wondering what material the county said we could have on both driveways (there was some discussion) and if both driveways are included in the bid.
I'm not sure why, but I am drawn to black or darker colored windows. I understand they come in vinyl so I'm guessing they can be affordable. Is there a reason to talk me out of this? Doors will have to be thought through--painted same as walls (in some of pictures in next post). Still, I do love the 2nd one ((inspiration kitchen).
Lots to love about how this space looks, but mostly a spaceholoer for questions. Doors? Probably Pricey. Definitely open to French doors. Also, leaning is wood-resembling tile (no grout). Any opinions? Probably couldn't afford unless I can get my brothers to do it (they have never done grout-less though). Otherwise, what floor type are you talking about. What is its durability (scratch and dent resistance), water resistance, AND how does it perform with temperature fluctuations!
Over-excavate and French drains--our neighbor across the street strongly recommended this. Perhaps some of the French drain work can come later, but what do we need to do NOW?
OUTDOOR LIGHTING and ELECTRICAL. A lot of this can be saved for later, but let's think through what goes right on the house itself. It is SO DARK up there. -Lights in eves -GFI outlets by front door (probably both sides for Christmas; avoid outdoor cord fest at Christmas) -Help us think this through (everyday and holiday)
Talk about water heaters! I was confused by Robert's reports. What is planned and is that really the best?
Mostly a note here... Can we leave space in front for a second propane tank if we need it. A few neighbors recommend it, so it would at least be nice to plan in the space even if we wait to drop it in.
Cross Ventilation--A nice built-in-screen windows and doors are available at Jones Paint & Glass or somewhere in Jordan. https://www.marvin.com/plan/inspiration-gallery/videos/marvin-interior-shade-installation-ultimate-swinging-door-970 . I like to be able to see in the room where the computer is, but want it to feel more private if we put a sofa-bed in there for company. These options feel like a nice compromise.
Would this scale and translate to our space?
