This is what we are looking for on the covered deck - sky lights, also varying width deck and the patio area for the downstairs.

This is pretty much what we have come up with - garage shed roof at one angle, flat roof on connecting entry way and then shed roof at a different angle up towards the river or a combination of hip roof and shed roof.
