Reply to: Caleb - sorry I have been MIA. Been super busy. But I have looked for a good medium LRV blue/gray color and have found a good one. It is SW Niebla Azul 9137. It has an LRV of 55; a Hue Angle of 214, that is in the Blue/Green Hue Angle and cool. I think it is worth a sample board to see if it would work. The lighter tone of this color is SW Lullaby 9136; with an LRV of 66; and a Hue Angle of 205 in the Blue/Green hue family. Reply to: These are some of the grays I picked. The one shown with the wood flooring is SW Essential Gray. Zircon and Evening Shadow are also shown. The little samples shown with the tiles are cabinets, bathroom quartz and my kitchen granite.

Reply to: Kate towards the end of our build I was exactly where you are. I wanted one color for walls to use throughout, neutral enough to live with in every room, work with existing and yet to be purchased furniture but interesting enough to last until/if I decide to change it. I did not want gray but was looking at greiges and losing my mind! I had chosen my cabinetry and counters already, planned white oak floor in a light stain and had picked tile for the bathrooms so there was the beginning of a color palette but I was stuck with the paint. Also like you I kept drifting to Pale Oak and others like it. Then I called Amy Woolf. I had known her for years from GardenWeb but never had need to hire her before. To make a long story short-ish, she steered me away from the too light greiges I thought would work and gently led me to a slightly deeper greige that would stand up to the south and west/southwest light in our main living areas and not get washed out. I ended up with Benjamin Moore Natural Cream for the walls, Mountain Peak White for the trim and Dove Wing for the ceilings. They are in every room and depending on the room exposure and time of day there is just enough difference to keep the house from feeling static. And I have to say one of the things I love most is that the transitions between the 3 paints is crisp but soft, not stark the way a true ceiling white or bright white trim would be. You can see it here in our front entry, kitchen, dining room and living room. It may or may not be a good choice for you but I can guarantee a consultation with Amy will be well worth it and you'll come out with the right neutral for your house.

Reply to: I’ve just done my garage in accessible beige and laundry room in agreeable gray. Very very different colors. I prefer warmer tones and really like the accessible beige. Planning on using it inside the house elsewhere, perhaps the great room. It is fresh, has a stony coolness to it but isn’t cold and looks good against wood furniture and beige floor tiles.

Reply to: make sure you prime those cabs before painting them. and why can't you use turquoise or teal? look outside at the sky. is there a lake? Taupe or Brown paint? sigh.

Reply to: Hey guys, niccidhg is correct....useful gray in the kitchen and main living areas on the first floor (it has no blue cast), and uncertain gray in the scullery and laundry room which definitely is bluish but not a very beachy color to my eyes. Silver strand is pretty and much softer (it's in our bonus room and guest room #2)...it bluish with a little green but more blue to my eyes.

Reply to: LRV 68 is really light. This is timely because I really need to paint my house and I'm sitting with chips and painted foam core all over my table. My house faces due west and that's really the elevation that matters most to me since it's my house's face to the world. The color has held up pretty well over the years, a warm LRV 46 mid gray. When the sun blasts the south wall it fades right out. You'd think all the color had bleached away, until the shadow returns and you can see it's still the same. The north side looks much darker all the time but it's a narrow side yard only used for storage. Anyway, the same color will look different on all four sides, different times of the day, different seasons, influenced by your surroundings. Lots of trees and greenery? Expect a green influence. I hate having so many paint choices, I really do.

Reply to: I have Accessible Beige in my halls and entry. Love it, and complements Escape Gray (looks like sea water on a cloudy day) and Ethereal Mood. I love how light reflects off Accessible Beige and the Eider White trim looks so clean against it. Depending on the light, it moves warmer and cooler. It's a GREAT neutral. That said, Agreeable Gray is also a good choice.
