Flooring
There is an excellent site for molding information called The Joy of Molding. Study it. Seriously.
protected floors with a cushioned foam, then plastic, and then cardboard. Floors looked beautiful when all the coverings were removed.
You might also throw old sheets or blankets -- something that you can put in the washing machine -- over beds and upholstered furniture in closed rooms
The mop stain is much richer (darker) and evens out differences in the planks
ruggable rugs..they pull off the under pad so you can through them in the washing machine.
Take short pile carpet and cut little pieces and glue them into the bottoms of the legs.
I just cringe when I see area rugs on hardwood especially if it's a sun filled room. You'll have to get the floor refinished, address the light coming into the room, 3M makes great window films to block the u.v rays.

the only way to get the final coat to dry fastest, and alleviate the smell fastest, is to run the air conditioner! Yes I said run your air on cold, the dehumidifier in the unit will help cut your drying time in half. I have done this personally on entire homes that had the same hardwood floors, and coatings. It does work! If this is done within just a few hours of the last coat, otherwise, I am sorry, the smell does take a long time to fade
Be aware that if you get too much air movement (like a breeze or a fan blowing over the surface) you will create a hazy finish that will never correct. That's why you would need to wait a few days AFTER the third coat is down before you can open a window for a little bit of time.
Until the finish has fully cured (usually 30 days for 3 coats of oil based finish) you will want to be quick with spills.
did notice that under the table was losing its shiny finish from the repeated wiping with a damp paper towel after each meal. I’ve avoided that the best i can in our new kitchen and use a small vacuum for crumbs now.
Flooring - 3/4” x 2 1/2” solid #2 Red Oak, site finished. Water popped and stained with Minwax Early American. 3 coats of satin polyurethane.
If you are going to match with another floor make sure to specify 3'-10' lengths. Most modern Red Oak floors will have too many shorts and it wont look right.
Hardwoods need: Sweep/vacuum (beater bar 'off') 1-3 times per week (as needed) Weekly "slightly damp" (water ONLY) clean (microfibre mop + water) Monthly (or twice/monthly) "cleaning" with a pH neutral hardwood floor cleaner (like Bona)
When I see the inevitable (but surprisingly rare) scratch, I buff it with a hardwood dye on a piece of paper towel that fills the lighter-colored scratch with dark color, making it almost invisible. I recommend it! The product is called “Trade Secret Scratch Remover for Dark Wood”, and a small bottle will last forever.
All flooring should be installed after cabinet installation per National Wood Flooring Association guidelines.
In the Minwax stain guide, the Provincial and Special Walnut both have green undertones. Jacobean also has green undertones if you wish to add some depth to the floors.
Carefully bleach the stains with WOOD bleach (oxalic acid).

this air purifier (Healthmate Jr. by Austin, linked below) and it has worked well to get rid of a lot of smells during the course of our DIY renovations, including floor refinishing, painting, etc.
Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene" (UHMWPE) under the wheels or feet of a heavy appliance. This material is available at "Woodcraft" stores and other suppliers.

Use 3M's sandblaster paper (P400 grit) and / or maroon Scotch-Brite pads. Steel wool will leave behind shards of steel that will rust.

1. Sweep/dust mop/vacuum routinely (2+ per week) 2. Slightly damp cleaning (water ONLY) 1x per week "Cleaner" (slightly damp mop head) used 1x - 2x per MONTH The most important thing to remember is this: cleaners only need to be used 12-20 times PER YEAR!!! Yes. Over cleaning kills hardwood much faster than "under" cleaning.
