Comments (6)Hi Antoinette I too live in Ireland in a Semi Detached. My husband who's the one with green fingers has transformed our garden into an oasis you wouldn't think we lived in a housing estate. You might start with cleaning the slabs. You could change the edging tile with a contrasting one to set it off. Use different sizes and colours of pots. A seating area in one section. Use lots of different colours and plants which are ok to grow in pots. Just seeing all the colours come to life in Spring and Summer will cheer you up. Here are some photos that were taken at the end of summer last year the leaves have started falling from the trees. Oh yeah still have the clothes line up too....See MorePatio
Comments (7)Great- a photo. How about deciding if you want seating, dining, play space, or a combination, and then work out where each function makes the most sense. You could to a lot with plants, including large trees, in pots to soften the area and to screen one area from another, or could pull up some of the pavers to make planting spaces directly into the ground. Sketch out what you might want to use the space for and where you need it, and it will come together pretty quickly. Your local nursery can be an excellent resource....See MoreWhat colour to paint or varnish door saddles?
Comments (0)We just bought a bungalow and are doing some redecorating before we move in. It is an old house with a narrow hallway and small rooms so we want to keep it as light and airy feeling as possible. We are putting in new doors, architrave, skirting, etc. and painting these white. However all of the windows (which we aren't changing as they are quite new) are a dark wood - almost a walnut colour. My question is what colour should I varnish the door saddles? I would prefer to varnish rather than paint these, but don't want to go too dark. How many wood colours is ok in a house, e.g. should we varnish the saddles to an oak colour and stick with this for the furniture? Any advice appreciated!...See MoreHelp, any ideas on what style of door/ upgraded entrance would work ?
