How do I co-ordinate my living room with this wallpaper seem to have a lot of the same colour
Comments (20)HI -- Well the wallpaper was just done so there is no changing that , soooo I think you should paint the rest of that wall the same white as the white background of the wallpaper and paint fireplace mantel too. Then have two small matching cabinets painted the blue from the paper or the leaf color placed on each side of the fireplace. . Then have white or glass shelves above , maybe three is best . Now the rest of the room painted the exact color of your sofa . Because the room looks small I think it would look best to have the sofa blend into the walls color wise. Now just keep some of your room accents in the blue color but not too much. Remember not to clutter the shelves and if you don't want the shelves then have a large painting on each side and have a big round mirror over the mantel and keep the small items off the mantel and onto the side cabinets ....See MoreWhy do we use SheepWool as Insulation for an attic?

Comments (0)In a year or two, we would like to renovate the kitchen/dining/living areas so I do not want to put a lot of money into the space right now... However, until that reno time comes, I would like to make a few small changes that will help modernize the space and brighten it up a bit I'm torn on what to do in this kitchen... I was thinking about staining the cabinets darker, painting the back splash tiles white & painting the walls... however... I'm a complete newbie and I'm not confident in my decisions at all. Few things to note, that table will not be there - I'm planning on getting a high, thin bar table (wood and steel) that will go above the radiator w/ 2 bar stools. I really like dark rustic & industrial design. I also don't plan on changing the flooring until reno day so I'll have to work around that as well. I have the stick on phrase: "Enjoy Life It's Delicious" in my kitchen and framed pics of my H and I sharing our wedding cake, and pics of each of our kids as babies eating their 1st b day cake, underneath it. I get a lot of unsolicited compliments so I assume it is not tacky. More importantly, I love it!

7 years agoMy darling niece keeps giving me these for Christmas, much to my dismay. A "cabin" sign for those who weren't quite sure where they were (works well enough in the kids' room there) and a dreaded "powder room" for my carefully designed room by that name. But the ones I absolutely hate the most are the ones that usually adorn a little shrine to wine. I love to tip one back like the next gal, but I certainly don't need to announce it to the world as if they didn't already know!! "A day without wine is like..." fill in the blank. Ugh. This is MY kind of "word art," for "powder rooms" only (ps hubs is a cop).

6 years agoI've read most of the replies but am still shaking my head at the idea that a home has "public areas" where family photos aren't to be displayed. Are we talking breast feeding photos or birth photos (because that makes sense)? Or does this mean any/all family photos? Such a head scratcher. LOL
I don't love word art unless it's funny. For instance, this is going in our bathroom and if it doesn't make you laugh, you don't need to come for a second visit! :P (Edit to add, the Catholic kid in me changed this to "OMG, Becky!")

6 years agoMost of these examples are not art. They are just inputted letters, with no concern to any design principles. On the other hand, typographic art and design is one of my favourites to hang around the house.

6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoI have 1 Word Art in my Guest Bathroom. The 'Love' plaque (it was originally 'gold') & was purchased for my daughter's wedding. I crackle painted it white. However, on short notice, it was not used in her wedding. The Wedding moved to Hawaii with only 9 of us. It was Great!
This is a special momento for us! Since my daughter is an ASL (American Sign Language) teacher, the child sitting on the Love plaque was a gift and very special also. This child item is 'signing I Love You'.
I think we need to decorate and display decor in our homes with the important things in our lives that say something about our personalities, and what means most to us, which makes us all unique.
Word Art in my opinion is neither 'right or wrong' with decorating correctness nor should it be considered if it is on trend.

2 years agoWhen the Covid pandemic started, of course we couldn’t go out to a restaurant. I purchased a hand painted sign: “ The Gathering Place” and hung it in our living room. We nicknamed our living room: The Gathering Place, and joked about it being our restaurant, as we eat many meals there.
