I recently moved into a bare apartment. I'm seeking help for what colour sofa to get and if I should buy a rug or not..the whole place is carpeted.
Any design ideas are totally welcome! We are obviously going for contemporary/modern and staying away from "a family with a dog must live here". We are also young.
Rug over carpet works well as you can see here. Keep things in a neutral palette and you can change accessory colors for minimal $$ when you tire of the current ones.
You can do a lot in that space. Rugs can work over carpets if they're both sturdy. Otherwise, use a mesh thing underneath to hold it together (don't know the name but seen it many times).
Don't be afraid of large art panels in that space. Check out my work for ideas. I have many originals, and hundreds of configurations of canvas prints that I can print to the size you choose. Style is contemporary.
You can always pick one thing you like (a couch, rug, carpet, etc) and use it as a starting point for your design/color scheme.
Looks like a small space. Gray lest her with chrome legs sofa 2 sestertius. Think scale. Place sofa to look at view or a TV.? Not sure what room is used for? Get 2 swivel chairs in a fabric print. Yellow and gray works. No rug over rug. Never lays right. A black small 20" round metal coffee table. Lamps in stainless with white shades with end tables buy sofa. If TV a long low media in black or white. Ikea, go there for all your needs. Good price, and some great art. There is the London underground 40" for over sofa. Hang all art 6-7" above top of furn. Keep it low, clean sleek lines. Not too big. On windows gray and white print panels on ends of windows only. Ikea. Hang on a black rod. They should touch the floor. Accessories on coffee and other tables. Tall pots in black, grey, yellow. Teal, or blue green works with gray also. Keep sofa always a solid color and chairs can be a contemporary design. Use only one accent color in a small room. Carry same accents to other rooms to tie together.
Stage your great deck. It is part of your living area. Get nice love seat and chairs. In a bold strip in gray. And black for a modern look. Maybe add a fire pit. A water feature in corner. Add palms faux for privacy when sitting out there. Also bamboo is another way to go. Use indoors also to to fill corners. Keep things on walls big over 36-40" not too much.
Hey, travisinteriors! Thanks for the detailed replies, yes we are using the room for TV watching but I wanted to put a computer and desk in the also? The balcony is HUGE, almost as big as the living room.
