Re-doing living room and sunroom of 1926 house. Need ideas for lamps, end tables, window treatments. I am waiting for a 5x8 rug for the sunroom. Couches, blinds, living room rug and TV are new. Looks very dark in the pics because I only have crummy overhead lights on. ( I don't ever use them!) I get plenty of sun in the daytime, when the blinds are open. But I need lighting for night...

Comments (15)Once again, carolins has taken the words right out of my mouth. I sometimes feel like a crusader for entertainment centers and lowering art! You have a dynamic room with so much potential. Your wall could look amazing with the armoire carolins has pictured above. Of course, lower your sconces so that they're a about 4" below the top of the armoire and about 7" from the sides. Your fireplace should be your focal point with your wall being strong but not competing. Rooms get personality from smaller accents but you have too many little things that take away from the great colored pillows and the picture. Be careful not to hang things in straight lines--top of pictures should never line up with tops of doors or curtain rods. I wish we could see your fireplace in another photo. Chairs should form conversation groups with the couch like Carolyn has outlined. I like your chandelier but you might think about lowering it or moving it above a dining table--it looks rather lost way up there....See MoreLooking for decorating ideas

Comments (5)You have a great space to work with. If you decide that you would like a colorful area rug then that could be your jumping off point to bring other colors into your rooms. You have alot of wall spcace for beautiful artowork, mirrors etc. I would decide on the area rug first and once you do that colors for your drapes and pillows and throws and accent pieces will come from the colors in the rug. If you decide against a rug then choose a piece of art and the colors for everything can come from that as well. Comments (3)Hi. I'm not sure what styles you like? Perhaps a scandi feel? Extend the grey paint to ceiling, back of shelves and skirting boards. Paint the shelves an off white and remove half of the books and mix with some art and accessories.. Paint the bed and cabinets in a pale grey and move to the right ŵall. Add white and charcoal bedding. Maybe an updated anglepoise in black or dark grey ( not too tall!) for the bedsides. Add a dark grey/ black scandi chair with sheepskin throw. You could also age the floor in off whites and pale greys, if not add a rug. Finally a mirror opposite the shelves to make the room feel bigger....See More

10 years agoI don't have a bungalow style house...not quite sure what it is? Colonial? see pic of outside, I attached previously. It's a 2 story, 4 BR, with a few curved arches as doorways, so I am thinking not bungalow. I am going for warm, cozy, comfortable, with a mish-mosh of styles, I guess? lol. My DR is BM Galapagos green on the bottom, BM Barley on top, LR, stairwell and upstairs hall are BM Rich Cream, Sunroom is BM Philipsburg Blue, and kitchen is BM Desert tan

10 years agoThanks, Karemore! I have always liked these colors, and navy, too. I try to have 2 or 3 of them in every room. But somehow, I ended up with a gray and white bathroom...oops!

10 years agoPicked up some pillows today...I think I need a course in pillow arranging! Not sure what I think? And what on earth do people do with the wall behind a 55" TV. It's boring bare, but I can't figure out what to put there? I put the rocker back in the LR, waiting for a cover for the DR radiator...and sheesh, I need to get things on the walls!

10 years agolast modified: 10 years agoI don't see why you can't add the decorative tape yourself. I do stuff like that all the time! Sewing center has the tape, then a small spot of hot glue here, another there and voila!
For the dining room windows, more photos would help. You could do some cellular shades for privacy and insulation (light still comes in well) and then panels on the sides.
Colors aren't right, but this shows the idea:

10 years agolast modified: 10 years agoI must have deleted the pics. I will get one in the am. It's a single 32" w X 53" high window with a radiator in front, with a brown cover to match the wood trim. You can see a bit of the window in the first pic, on the left. The 3rd and 4th pics are the old LR and sunporch. 2nd pic is of DR last St Patrick's Day. I have already ditched the dark navy valance and panels that were on the window...too dark!
