Wall colours in a white gloss kitchen
Bought a house recently that has quite a bland white gloss kitchen with wood effect laminate worktop. The long-term goal is to replace it but in the short-term I want to refresh the space by painting the walls. I'm unsure what colour to paint it. I'm a fan of dark colours in living rooms and bedroom, and am easily drawn to them on a colour chart. The same cannot be said for lighter shades which is a challenge as I feel that I should keep this space much lighter. I want to keep the ceiling white as to 'hide' the spotlights (I feel any other colour would cause them to stand out). Do I paint one colour on all walls? Use a combination of two maybe?
The space functions as an open plan living space day-to-day with kitchen, dining area and a sofa.

Comments (10)Hi Maria. It's a lovely kitchen and I must admit I like the white so would probably change the accessories. I would add a huge sunburst clock or mirror above the cabinets (can't work out if it's a clock or mirror above the fire). Add a statement light over the table. Try a coloured splashback behind the cabinets. Add some coloured stools. I would say paint the kitchen chairs but I can see they are good quality! If you do want to paint then either blues, violets or even a very soft grey if you add some coloured accesories. last monthI have Oval Room Blue by Farrow & Ball with a pale cream kitchen and it’s a lovely colour, deep but not too dark. Looks lovely with white. One query I have is what else is in that rather large room? It seems strange to have the kitchen squashed into that corner like that.

last monthHi Sonia, I think the F&B colour you mentioned would look well with a pale cream kitchen however I don't see it with the white gloss. I'm a big darker coluour (see photo of hallway attached). I agree the room is a bizarre layout - it was a developer built houise and I think they wanted the space to be able to function as an open plan living/dining/kitchen space (even though there is a seperate lounge).

25 days agoI went for Dulux Inky Pool 3 in my kitchen with off white cupboards and carried it through to some walls in the dining room. While it’s quite a strong colour, it feels warm but not too bright. The glass splashback is colour matched to Dulux Inky Pool but the darkest version of it.

13 days agoI've now decided to chage the splashback - gone of a simple burgundy rectangular tile so now need to reconsider what colour

13 days agoHi Katlucy - yes I am thinking of geting a small freestanding island (don't want to overspend however as eventually wish to fit a new kitchen). I've attched a photo of the dinning table/chairs I have (position of which can change when I get the island)

12 days agoI'd been thinking about getting an island unit from ikea, the tornviken which has a wooden top and is painted grey and perhaps paint to bring in a bit of a pop of colour (a bit obsessed with mustard tones at the moment). The white gloss kitchen frustrates me - i'm just not a big gloss fan, but it was a developer finish before i purchased it from the first owners and financially not in a position to rip it out at the moment. Think is need to go more muted on the walls now if I have the purple tile and possible 'pop' island. Toying with the likes of this dulux shade
