Help Please w/ Living Room and Dinning Area
I am looking to update the dining area space in my living room. The full room is a rectangle measuring 9m x 3.5m. I have half the room devoted to living area (which I am happy with) but the other half I have divided into dining area space but struggling to fill the space appropriately.
I was thinking of having a large bookcase or console table on the right side of the wall. However, I feel I need to figure out how to fill the space length ways rather than width ways. In other words, from the pictures, how to fill the awkward gap between my lounge chair in living room area and dining room chair. The distance between my lounge chair and the window is 4m width is 3.5m.
All suggestions welcome and thank you in advance!

Comments (56)The trim in your rooms is outstanding. To "tie the rooms together", the one thing I would do is install chair rail the same color as the existing trim. The horizontal lines of chair rail will move the eye around the room and into the next room creating a flow. Comments (7)If you put a narrow table behind the couch you could use it as a desk/display area, if it has shelves you could use it for storage for dvd's or whatever. When you place the furniture away from the wall it gives the room a more gracious and airier feel. 10 months agoPeople often add low bookcases behind sofas to zone. Do you just have the one sofa and chairs in the living end though?

10 months agoI was going to say exactly what Minnie has said. Turn the table lengthways which will already help fill the space, then get a nice big sideboard which could go along the blank wall opposite the doors or it can be used as a room divider. It will give you lots of storage too.
