Living Rooms Home Decorating Design Dilemma

New first time homeowner here 👋🏻 Need some ideas how to do furniture layout in the living room. The front door opens in the middle of the room, so it is a little awkward. We also have an 80in TV that I’m not sure if it’s going to work in this room. Any ideas are greatly appreciated! 🤗

I like your idea for a layout. I would not put a chair near the bedroom. I think it doesn't add functionality. How about an armoire for coats and such? Or bench with hooks on the wall?

I love the idea of a bench! Maybe one with storage for blankets and winter clothing. Can’t really do anything tall there because of the giant window though.

And I forgot to mention the stripey rug is a placeholder for a jumbo dog bed.

Love white walls, especially with colorful art or black and white photos. Move the sofa/love seat next to the table...make it look like a sectional. The rug may work...but a bit too small. Your artwork is too small and way to high. May I suggest a gallery wall? The art work should only be about 8" above couch, unless you have little ones then I totally understand. Buy some frames and start experimenting with your photos...some black and white, some sepia, blow them up. Should span 2/3 the length of sofa. Lots of ideas on gallery walls on Pinterest.

Will the radiator be an issue if you want to put TV to left of fireplace? Though it is a more prominent position, you could put the TV over to the right of the fireplace. Back to the window is better as regards glare on the screen if you are watching it during the day time. I would put your sofa in the middle of the room facing the fireplace. then I would put an armchair with its back to the window pointing in towards the sofa. This can be pulled sort of in front of the TV/ forward from the TV which will push the TV into the background and demonstrate that it is not your dominant feature. When you do want to watch TV you can push the armchair over a bit so you can see the TV from the sofa. Alternatively, put the TV with its back to the wall around where the mirror is leaning in your picture. And use houseology's great TV unit on castors idea whichever side you choose! Simple yet genius as you can push the TV right into the corner out of the way when not using - might use that one myself.

Chairs on the sides of front door feel awkward and won’t provide conducive seating. Can the sectional be moved down closer to doorway and suggest an l-shaped sectional to accommodate more seating and help balance that wall. Like below but sectional’s short side at other end. Think an occasional chair (swivel for viewing tv, as it would be on opposite corner).

Maybe in the bottom left corner in your diagram, a narrow cabinet could be added for jackets and to help balance, add large art on other side of the narrow window.

The long wall facing front door will need art proportionate to wall and make sure rug grounds the seating area.

I would move the chair that is too the left of the door to the left of the TV console. Make sure the 2 chairs are small and swivel. It will then be in the conversation area.

What about this without a sectional? It would work with the current couch we have. Then think about replacing it and the chair furthest from the TV with a L couch later on?

I like Maureen’s layout, but it doesn’t seem to include your front door. Perhaps I’m reading it wrong. I like your latest layout, except for the console extending past the wall.
