I have a large south facing bedroom with two front facing windows

The ceilings are high

I want to find a taupe/cream/white paint scheme which feels classic,modern and restful

Do I keep the ceiling white and white above the picture rail

What about the mouldings and fireplace?

Can anyone also suggest where to get reasonably priced carpets? I’m thinking cream or light beige…

The new curtains (yet to arrive) are susie Watson linen

Is that picture your actual bedroom? It is beautiful and I’d keep it as it is - classic - but with your new curtains of course.

What a gorgeous room! You have lots of options here as it's such a beautifully airy and light room.. You could 'colour' drench' the whole space and this will give it a cosy vibe in a taupe colour (including mouldings and fireplace). Or you could paint the ceiling down to the dado a darker colour than the walls and this will add interest and feel atmospheric. Or go with the current finishes with a darker wall and lighter 'frosting' on the woodwork, fireplace and architrave etc. Another option would be to add in some additional texture with a woven wallpaper. It can help add depth and interest in a larger room too.

I would wait until your linen curtains arrive as linens are all slightly different hues, with some being quite pinkish and others more yellow beige. If you are going pale and neutral, F&B All White is pure white but with the tinest tinge of warmth which makes all the difference when comparing with standard Dulux pure white (for celinings). I would look at Little Greene's neutral colours they are really good. You could test F&B Skimming Stone which works really well in a well lit room and works with nicely with linen and rust colours. I would look at sisal for the floor as the texture is beautiful.

That is true alright, though even with a patterned carpet they usually keep a mat for people to wipe their feet on by the door, or if people like to remove boots or shoes when entering ( not that common here) but great idea. The trouble with the patterned carpet was if anything fell on the floor you could hardly find it !!

However, before you get bogged down in the details try to consider how you want the room to feel. Do you want light and airy or cosy and warm? Keep this in mind before you look for inspiration.
