Porthole window internal poor finish

We have a round porthole window and it’s been finished internally poorly. Looks to have plywood surround fitted. I’ve asked a couple of handy men for

ideas. One said to even it out with wood filler or a repair plaster filler. Another to fit some hardboard and plaster up to it. I think I should remove the plywood and plaster but not sure what I’ll find underneath!

I can’t see any plywood on the picture. What I can see is a perfectly round window in a wall that isn’t perfect. Plastering this perfect circle will challenge most plasterers and so I thing you need to find a better plasterer. It then needs decorating better- decorators calk will flexibly fill the edge between plaster and the window

Thanks like the look of the jackoboardrcd. Probably the 3mm one. can i stick it in place with sticky foam or something more specialised?

They do their own fixing (one link below), or check the broad category of product and find something similar.

Looking at your “stripped out” image above, that looks like a serious botch job. I would consider finding a cnc wood cutting company and get them to mill some perfectly circular forms in ply, say, to place into the hole and attach your flexible board to. You could get these made in 3 or 4 sections to screw together. Couldn’t find quite the right image, but this might give some food for thought.
