What colour Venetian blinds?

I have decided Venetian blinds are the best solution for two sash windows and a smallish casement window in the house. But…

What colour??

The window frames (and doors to each room) are painted in a dark grey shade (farrow & ball Railings), and the walls are done in soft, neutral colours. The floors are oak.

Should I get dark blinds to match the window frames? Or wood effect blinds to match the floors?

I always prefer window dressings to blend with the walls, so I wouldn’t choose either. I would choose a similar to your walls, but that does depend what you mean by neutral walls. Could you share a picture?

Hi Sonia! The house is still a construction site and the paint has not gone on the walls yet. That said, I can share a photo showing one of the windows that’s been painted near one of the ceilings that has also been painted. Each room will be colour drenched in a soft neutral tone: farrow & ball Mizzle, Old White, Cromarty and Matchstick.

I do not see velvets and silks for a kitchen sink window sorry. There are plenty of gorgeous fabrics around with beautiful damask or geometric pattern that are striking, that could be found in a faux silk or linen. Velvet is something that I would never put in a kitchen. But it is your kitchen.

What is your budget? I am partial to blinds from Lutron that provide privacy and a view and have battery operated controls for automated operation for retrofits but they are pricy. Hunter Douglas has a fabulous selection of window coverings and then there are always options such as JC Penny's. As for color and style, I suggest you establish a budget and then investigate options in your price range, this will narrow down your search considerably.

What color are the walls? Green, beige, gray? What color are the floors and couches? Is the rug staying? What style of artwork will you be putting up? Color, black and white, family pics, large or small? All this info would make it infinitly easier to make suggestions. : )

Hello Jen, I am so surprised that no one has mentioned vertical blinds to you? They are very much back in fashion and work beautifully in a room such as yours. They come in 3.5" veins, which mean they will fold back and tuck into each recess when fully open. They turn to let as much light in as you need and then close when you want full privacy. They will be fitted in the recess above the windows. You can either have one complete rail length or two so you have a separate section over the door. You can have what's know as a middle split, i.e: half goes left and right. Personally I would suggest one length that opens to the left, therefore leaving your door completely uncovered when open. The pulley system is very much like a roller blind and are safety fixed to the wall so children can not get caught in them. They come in a huge rang of colours and materials and better still they are very affordable. I am working with a number of new developments in Hertfordshire at the moment and these are what the clients are all asking for. I have Mizzle and Cromarty in my house. A blind with a tint of green in would suit IMO.
