What laminate worktop with Dove Grey units in utility?

About to order our kitchen and utility units from DIY kitchens. We're going with Dove Grey in Stanbury with Cobham Blue Island and we've decided on a white shimmery quartz worktop but decided on laminate for the utility room. Was hoping to get a similar style laminate to the quartz but doesn't seem to be many options out there for white worktops. So instead of trying to match the main kitchen thought maybe go for a wood effect instead, perhaps a light oak colour. Any suggestions or examples of laminate worktops with dove grey units?

Personally I don’t like wood effect. I think of them as old fashioned when there is just a vast choice out there.

Most of my customers who choose dove grey fascias opt for a Carrera Marble laminate worktop. It compliments it nicely.

We had the same dilemma - dove grey units throughout, white shimmery quartz worktops in kitchen and wanted but couldn't find a laminate equivalent at DIY kitchens for the utility.

We opted for a slightly different look and chose the Bellato Grey laminate worktop. It looks very nice with the grey units when we matched the samples in the showroom (my mother-in-law actually commented she thinks it'll look nicer than our quartz!). Due to be installed early September.

This is a very small and dark kitchen I would defo change the colour of the units to an antique cream and the worktop a darker colour maybe walnut and paint those double doors and the window sill white to match the other wood work also get a smaller round table it would give you more floor space the chairs you have would still work and maybe add some splashes of acidy colours lime green/orange or yellows not too much just a few touches. also Jacksplash is correct about the blind if you are keeping a blind go for a straight edge one. if your budget allows I would also change the sink to a white sink it really reflex light from the window and brightens the room I did something the same with my own sink it doesn't have to be a Belfast sink you can get the same sink as you already have in white ceramic.

Hi Mary, I'd say remove the wall tiles and replace them with a glass splashback the whole way round or have a matching granite upstand put in and simply paint the walls. Splashbacks are my favourite as they tend to add some light to the kitchen thanks to its reflective surface. Also another idea would be to play around with lighting, which is getting more and more popular in kitchens now, such as LEDs under your wall cabinets, on top of your cabinets or along the plinth. The added lighting just adds a little something special to the kitchen and more importantly it doesn't have to cost the earth either! Another lighting option could be to go with the industrial lighting craze right now and get something put right above the island which would really add character to the kitchen too! Marius

First before you think of putting grey on your walls take into account the light in your kitchen. Where do you live? Is it sunny most of the year? Is your sky grey 4 to 6 months of the year in the winter and spring? Grey can be very depressing when you are surrounded by it day after day. My vote is for white walls or a light color. You also have to take into account what the other rooms are painted that are open to the kitchen's sight line.

Skimming stone is a lighter version of Elephants Breath and Dove Tale is a darker version, so if you want a tonal scheme you could go for a combination of those three colours. Strong White and Charleston Gray also work well with Elephants Breath. Because Elephants breath has a purple undertone to it, Brassica is often combined with it which would look great on the island unit. What colour is your worktop?

I should have mentioned that the choice of laminate worktops on that site is very limited. Why not source them elsewhere?

@Daisy I'm personally not keen on marble style worktops and the laminate versions I've seen online are not very subtle. Agree not much choice with DIY themselves and have looked a lot online and went to a local kitchen factory this morning but they didn't have much choice for laminate either.

@Tom - thanks will take a look. Would you mind posting a pic so I can see how it looks. We're wanting to order kitchen today otherwise I'd have made a trip to their showroom to see what they look like.

We deal with them on the trade side of things under a different name. They have just re-done their website and offer more choice. I recall they have some wood effect as I had to order for a customer. Just be cautious of the length though as they only did 3m in what my customer wanted. From recollection their carriage is quite high.

There is Axiom, Prima, Odyssey, Omega, Duropal, Egger, Spectra, Tandem and Oasis to name but a few if you can find a local independent who supplies all these. We do.
