I'm hoping these options (charcoal console and armchair) might work to replace the current console and chair but am concerned about colours. Do you think they'd be good together in the space or have you any other ideas for making the landing more exciting? I like scandi looks perhaps I'm going too dark with the charcoal? I will replace the Art too to something more grown-up! Thank you for any help/advise given.
I’d keep the existing raspberry coloured chair because it’s brighter than the grey but swap the console. I would look at getting large frame free pictures for the wall with lots of bright colours in.
It looks a bit bland because it’s all one colour. I think your console and chair would lovely and you can pop a yellow cushion on the chair. Yellow looks lovely with grey. You could also add a small flat weave rug to add some texture?
The items you currently have look a bit disconnected. I'm not convinced that brightly coloured necessarily works, you could try items that are all very textured and natural.
I also would keep the chair, as it is the least bland part of the set-up. I do like the other one too, but would try other things before swapping out the chair.
Personally (and I know some of this will come down to taste), I think the console is too crowded. I don't think the table lamp serves much purpose there and would have a floor lamp or table lamp by the chair. I would also replace the mirror with artwork to add some colour. The mirror just seems to be reflecting the interior of a bedroom. I would find somewhere that it can reflect something more beautiful, possibly the wall with the console.
For me, part of the blandness is that I couldn't see myself using that space. I would want a table next to the chair to put y book and cup of tea on, a light by the chair, etc. At the moment it looks as though things are just put there for the sake of it rather than for a purpose. Obviously, your purpose might differ from how I would use it.
Spot on Nick, a few objects put there to take the empty look of the landing as we focused on other parts of the house. I like your thoughts and think the mirror could indeed be moved reflecting a big bay window😊👍
The good thing about starting with moving around the stuff that you have is that it costs little. You can then replace or add to it if you still don't think it is right. There is one flaw in my suggestion: putting a light by the chair would mean you need an electrical socket, which I am guessing you might not have on the wall with the radiator. Certainly you wouldn't want the power cord running across the floor right by the stairs. Similarly, if you put a rug under the chair, you need to make sure it is small enough it doesn't create a trip hazard at the top of the stairs.
They were Pinterest images so not sure of source, but if you google earthy rustic chairs then lots of similar would come up. If you keep colours earthy and focus on texture then things tend to work together in a mellow harmonious way. Even things that may be described as neutral still have a 'colour' and warm leather is always a winner when it comes to feeling cosy. All down to personal taste really. I have a sofa on my landing which gets a lot of sun and it's a lovely place to sit and read.
