I have a red oriental rug, and my last house had a large red couch and a matching pair of red chairs. I went with a butter color. It blends with well and is very neutral. It made the room seem light filled in the day time and warm and cozy at night.

That is true alright, though even with a patterned carpet they usually keep a mat for people to wipe their feet on by the door, or if people like to remove boots or shoes when entering ( not that common here) but great idea. The trouble with the patterned carpet was if anything fell on the floor you could hardly find it !!

Hi Louise, Lovely new kitchen, such a lovely bright space too. I would suggest going a couple of shades darker than the kitchen furniture colour so you get a contrast to the furniture and flooring. This will help keep it on a neutral palette so your other furniture and accessories are not competing with too many colours. Also as your room as so much natural light you can go for a slightly stronger wall colour and it will look superb. the photo below shows a very cool grey wall you could go for a warmer grey but it give you an idea of what you could do. Painting the walls can always be changed relatively easily, so if you want a change after a few years you can and it's a lot less costly than a new kitchen! You really don't have any color scheme going on in here. I do see a gold range so I worked around that. Here are some ideas of colors you could add . I'm not crazy about accent walls, but you do need to add color to at least one of your walls - be it intense or even just a tint of color: Sherwin Williams Jetstream Sherwin Williams Sprout Sherwin Williams Composed I also added in a white or off white (or you could do color) back splash over your stove and counters. Once you have some color then you can add window dressings. I suggest roman shades, which you can get in many patterns and colors. Then find some art work that compliments your new colors - check on art.com, Overstock.com or Wayfair.com.
