stone fireplace, horrid columns

We have inherited a noughties stone fireplace. It could be beautiful but the 2 columns ruin it for me. There’s no budget to replace - any ideas to cover - sort out the stripes?

    Take these photos to any good marble & granite fireplace suppliers and they will be able to cut matching colour, plain pieces of granite to attach over these existing columns, leaving you with 2 plain columns. The suppliers should be able to send a fitter to measure and attach new granite. This will cost very little
