Since you want a traditional look, that light in the dining room just will not do. How tall is the room? Personally, I would rather not have the space between ceiling and tall units - would take units right up to ceiling. Something just doesn't sit right with me with regard to spacing- in particular the very small space to the left of the hob. Like others I feel there are too many colours and would have had the island in a grey - but I love the colours of the walls. I like the shelf - but not pushed in the corner like that!! One of the first things that caught my eye was the different colours of door and window frames in the house- I would have kept them all the same.... Not going to mention the stools!!!! I love the rounded units and would have opted to have rounded edges on the island to be in keeping, personally. Finally, this all sounds rather picky but we all know it is down to personal taste and overall it looks very nice. Hello jkhmcd, Colours can largely depend on what you are buying appliance wise.. I always go for and suggest robust chrome.. Free standing chrome range, with Dualit toaster, it's the most beautiful toaster ever and an iconic piece of design.. and complimentary kettle .. Dualit do a nice one too called architect.. I have done a lot of consulting on what brands and best design so the dualit is an all time favourite!! I don't know what the spout is like on the kettle and you'd want to go and try it out maybe but there's a couple of my must haves.. Chrome for me makes a kitchen.. I'd move on to a chrome kitchenaid if baking is enjoyed.. For me it's on a big long list! One thing I do think is a no no... Coffee, tea and sugar canisters.. Personally I hate to see these things especially on the worktop.. .. I keep tea in the cupboard and coffee in the fridge.. Have things on show that are more functional, like a collection of wooden chopping boards, that sort of thing.. Minimal and sleek worktop keeps the kitchen looking really stylish.. Grey is a lovely colour, works with chrome and you could maybe team it with creams or darker colours if you like dark.. It's hard to suggest things here as I don't know if grey is on walls or cupboards or floor.. If you could say what is what, it's easier to advise.. For now thought... think Chrome!.. : ) )

I have to agree with nudejude regarding the upholstered furniture sizes and positions. The room looks long and narrow, so placing 2 chairs or a 2 seater sofa opposite another 2 seater would allow you to enter through the door and walk, unrestricted, through to the opposite end of the room. An area rug between the sofas, large enough to fit under their front legs and perhaps a clear coffee table in glass or Perspex between would make a great conversation area. There may be enough length to the room to use a console table behind the sofa nearest the double doors with 2 small occasional chairs. A pair of lamps would provide light for the sofa and for the chairs. If the chairs are needed, they can be brought into the main conversation grouping. A Roman blind, with or without the curtains, would set off the window. Throw cushions in a variety of patterns and colour, will add interest to the upholstered pieces. Good luck and enjoy your home.
