Fireplace - Ideas
Hi,
We have a fireplace hole that is unusually tall in our living room. We wanted to do something to it that we could do ourselves (we are reasonably handy). We have put up a beam however there is still a lot of room for improvement. There is a plug socket on the left hand side of the fireplace.
We would be very grateful for any ideas.

Comments (4)shelly12345...not sure if you have completed your fireplace/room, just saw this post while looking for help with my own family room. I think would paint the fireplace and mirror white...would match the trim work of your room and your lighter furnishings. Something that was suggested to me...use some fabric or poster board to cover the wood on both, just to give you an idea of what it would look like white. That way you are not committed once the paint has been applied to the wood. I love Dytectur's idea of wallpapering the room and having the fireplace wall white. Would really pop! Comments (3)Seeing your love of geometrics and clean lines, would you consider adding some interest and texture with a geometric pattern tile, topped with a beech (is that the material in your alcove units?) mantle shelf? Very modern, but also very custom and interesting. At the moment, the space is quite sparse (but gorgeous!) and this might help warm things up a bit? There are also some amazing turkish tiles around now (2nd pic) that would add even more colour, but that might be a bit much for you? I would love it though!...See MoreHow can I update the fireplace?

6 years agoDo you mean hearth, rather than heart? I used garden sandstone paving for mine, but tiles look nice either plain or patterned.

PRO6 years agoHi Andy - Looking at your second picture correct me if I'm wrong, it looks like you don't have a massive amount of space to the left of the fireplace and its quite close to the TV.
To be honest it all depends on what you want that area to do/give you? If you are after a feature and like the stove's suggested above then go for it. If you just want to make it look pretty without distracting from the TV then how about some logs with fairy lights and a couple of candles. Super cheap too!
