These tiles on our kitchen floor?
Comments (8)Hi, We always put a quick note to verify our experience: Brigitte and I have consistently designed between 70-90 kitchens/year for over 34 years..... We've literally designed thousands of kitchens..... We also design/build full structural including below-grade foundation plans..... Anyway, certainly nothing personal, but that tile reminds us of old bathroom tiles/patterns from back in the 40's/50's, not something to put on a large kitchen floor.....Considering that you also have a parquet floor pattern in both adjoining rooms it might really look awful.....As we tell many clients- "don't want to look like we're in Disney World!.....You should be able to buy some of these tiles and lay them out, then return them.....Do it next to the other floors to see the visual.....Hope this helps.....John & Brigitte...See MoreNew kitchen, but just not working.
Comments (448)fragle0 ... congratulations on the new addition to your family. Have been following your lovely changes. You probably won't have time to work on the decor for a while. Just wanted to suggest that you try pulling the nesting tables forward to be more in line with front of the chairs & placing your floor lamp to the back of them. This will give a bit more light at night for reading in that area. Also switching the plant by the fireplace & the one on the corner by the sofa....See MoreFarm cottage
Comments (2)Sounds like a job for a handy concept planner !! ( like me !) Start with storage - in order to know what's needed and where - look at what you need to store ie coats/boots/hats/ from front entrance - kitchen equipment and implements etc in kitchen area , book, music, films etc ... Then look at adaptable things like fold down tables or coffee tables that raise up to be dining tables and folding dining chairs or bar stools that lower into dining chairs - which best suits the way you want to live/entertain guests ... How many bottoms need to sit on a sofa ? Do you have pets ? Then look at if you can expand outside that space . Can you add additional seating / eating space under a glass verandah outside ? Can you add a porch for coats and wellies etc ? Can you go up ? ie a mezzanine area for extra storage ? Then sort out stuff you have into - can't live without it - could modify to fit - could donate /sell - will donate/sell - needs to go to the dump ! ... That's a good start !! Over to you !...See MoreNew house kitchen layout
Comments (12)I see what you mean, It's a good idea in theory, however, practically, I don't think it's going to work, and you will end up ruining the nicest room in the house. There are no walls that remain unbroken by doors or windows, so where are you going to put units and unbroken worktop space. They can't go on the left as there are three doors. There's a door on the right, which although you could put a unit and a bit of worktop back right, it wouldn't be very big, and the biggest run of wall goes straight down to the glass doors, so you probably can't and wouldn't want to go straight up to them. You could move the door into the hallway from the front end to the bottom end by the patio doors and this would give you a better run of wall. If you put an island in the middle, 5' into the room to give yourself room to walk in and gain more worktop, it'll only leave you with around 6' at the other end for a dining space. However, i'd still advise getting a kitchen planner onboard before you start, as i'm not convinced the room is big enough to achieve what you want with the available wall space, and it stands a good chance of spoiling a very nice and elegant entrance to a house. The other big problem is the plumbing, there isn't any currently in that room, so you'll need to dig up the floor for drainage and almost definately that of either the utility or one of the bathrooms! I vote for keeping the house exactly as it is!...See Moreezett36
