What colour should I paint walls to match Howdens Cashmere Kitchen?

I've had a good long look through the forum's and I don't think I can find a thread relating to this but please point me in the right direction if I've missed one.

I have recently had fitted a Howdens Cashmere Shaker kitchen, with white marble laminate worktops and brass bar handles. We were rushed a little into choosing a paint colour as the decorator only had a limited amount of time before starting another job so in haste we chose Dulux Malted Chocolate.

Now...I love my Cashmere kitchen and I love the sultry pinky grey of the Malted Chocolate...but together, they morph into one! I feel as though the room is just completely pink! Strangely, my husband thinks it's fabulous, but I'm just not happy with it. We have agreed to repaint it but I'm so frightened of making the wrong choice again.

I chose the cabinet colour based on it's earthy, warm neutral tones but whether it's the lighting in there or the wall colour that is to blame it just looks..well.... pink!

I'm desperately seeking is some advice on what paint colour to go for in order to calm those pink tones down and bring out the more greyish/mushroom tones in the cabinets. Or if anyone can share some photos of their cashmere kitchens in different settings?

The room has a large patio door facing west and a window to the right facing east. It's reasonably light all day, especially so in the mornings.

Put some of your paint on cardboard (cover all) and take that and a door to the paintshop. Compare hues and pick a more gray-brown-mushroom. Maybe take just a sample, paint the cardboard and place it in your kitchen at different times of day (and against another wall the next day).

Personally, I'd pick a warm slate, as I think it would give a nice contrast to your kitchen, adds depth and looks great with the lamp, stools and appliances.

A pale moss brightens it up. And a rich chocolate makes it look really classy. Some examples below.

To tone down my elderly pale avocado bathroom suite (not saved up enough yet to gut it!) I put a very green palm print wallpaper in there. The suite then turned into a more acceptable beige.

Perhaps whatever colour you wish to tone down in the units you could bring out stronger on the walls? As advised by the poster above, playing with colour charts and large samples painted on big bits of cardboard will help a lot. So will matching your unit colour to a paint colour and seeing what the manufacturer recommends as a complementary colour scheme. Try Dulux, F&B and Little Greene for ideas.

I think that better colors would be gray (more or less light, depending on how large is your room) or white. Other colors that match with a mix of black and white would be strong colors as red or green, but I think they are too colorfully to pain living walls. In my opinion the best one is white, although it sounds banal, but it would emphasize your wallpaper and wouldn't condicionate the rest of the decoration.

Thank you soo much for your compliments. It makes me happy as we did everything ourselves (took a while since only had sometimes time during the weekends). id love to see your kitchen as soon as you have the bodbyn installed. What colour countertops/backsplash, floors do you have? can buy a small “tester” can/container and try it. Can always be painted over. we really dont have much exposed wall directly next to the cabinets... except for the 15”deep (island against the wall). we have large opening above that “breakfast” counter to the family room (so as we sit we can watch tv that’s over the fireplace.). That room we also decided to paint the same as the kitchen. would have been too tight to have an island in the middle of the kitchen.

Hi. Have you ever considered a real interesting eye catching piece of art work to really brighten up an area I think a select piece of art would really make the space stand out, add interest, colour, texture and add a great talking point to the room.... I also have cashmere kitchen units with an east facing window. I chose to keep the walls white which seems to bring out the grey undertones and creates a very neutral overall effect, which is what I wanted.

I have taupe floor tiles so I didn't want taupe walls too, however I think that would work well for your kitchen since you have lighter flooring. If you want some contrast, I'd suggest choosing a colour either lighter or darker than your units to avoid that homogenous look. Some examples of Dulux paint colours in Gentle Fawn, Dusted Cappuccino, and Perfectly Taupe for comparison. (Please post your after photos, I'd love to see what you chose!)

I'm probably leaning more towards the lighter colours at the moment - I'll keep you posted if/when I dare take the plunge!

Hi! in the end, after covering almost the entire utility wall in samples we chose Sail White by Crown. We absolutely love it! so much so we have also painted our lounge and are just having our hallway painted in the same! I never thought we'd have so much white in the house but it's a beautiful warm white, goes on perfectly and has the right amount of grey in it. Very contemporary and a perfect backdrop to my husbands ever expanding art collection. Suits every setting and looks a little different in each light. My husband was campaigning for the real dark colours following some of the pictures you kindly uploaded but I stood firm for the white - now hes converted! Thanks again all!

Your kitchen turned out great. I have also been leaning towards a warm greyish white in my head but have been dithering, and didn't know what whites might work. There are so many. It's so helpful to have a recommendation - thank you!

Hi all - I have also just had a Howdens Cashmere kitchen fitted and am trying out various testers - soft truffle, malt chocolate (funnily enough!) cookie dough....but all to pinky.

i love the slate grey in the suggestion photo but my kitchen is north facing and can be quite cold so not sure if that would be too dark for us. I like the look of the sail grey - will pick up a sample tomorrow.

I used a colourtrend paint matxhed to F&B Strong White on the end. It is a very neutral greyish off white. It turned out lovely and the cabinets don't look in the last bit pink

Open plan cashmere kitchen with contrasting dark grey cupboards. North facing so tendency to feel cold. We chose Dulux Summer Linen & love it.

Hello! I would start to order a paint chart from farrow and ball, they are for free. then I would put the paint chart next to the cabinet doors to see what colours are the closest. If you find more than one, I would order small samples of the different options you like, paint it on a A4 paper and put it next to the cupboards. hi Im having a cashmere kitchen fitted. Ive chosen a very light cream/beige porcelain tile floor and was thinking of a matt white worktop. But im stuck on what colour splashback and what colour to paint the walls.... any suggestions please

I love both kitchens they look fab. i have the same dilemma my kitchen only has a small window and its dark in there. i do not want grey at all as every room in my house was painted or papered grey and i hate it. i know i need a light colour but im not sure what to choose

We opted for a matt white marble worktop and instead of tiles, took this onto the walls also. Walls are painted Sail White by Crown. Photo of the utility attached.

Hello, I actually want to bring out the pink colour in the cashmere. I am having white concrete Matt worktops. I initially picked a warm white (wimbourne white) but worried it will look yellow with the white work tops! Any advice much appreciated.

We originally painted the kitchen Malt Chocolate by Dulux and that really amplified the pink tones in the cabinets!

This is such a useful thread! We are having Howdens Allendale in cashmere with marble laminate worktops and chrome fixtures. all our house is currently dulux polished pebble which has a bluey tone to it and contrasts nicely with the gloss white woodwork we have throughout.

want an off white/tonal neutral to go with the cashmere - north east facing terraced kitchen. Sanded down floorboards. let me know your suggestions!

Same predicament here. We have Fairford cashmere with wood worktop and floor (oak) and I can’t decide whether to make the walls the same colour or go for a white (as we currently have but needs tidying up). Dulux samples that are closest seem to be walnut or gentle fawn but our kitchen is several colours at once depending on whether in sunlight, shade or down lighters! I want to take the colour into the dining area and we have pastel sorbet colours in there.

We’re about to install our Fairford Cashmere with the grey chip quartz worktop and upstand. Grey tiles on the floor. Any suggestions for wall colours- was thinking of a heather shade but after reading thus thread it may highlight the pink tones in the cashmere.

If the walls are white then the colour of the cashmere will stand out more. Skimming Stone is probably a good match. My sister's kitchen is similar and has Skimming Stone (F&B) and Knightsbridge (Little Greene).

I too have cashmere top wall cupboards and antgracite grey bottom cupboards, im really stuck what colour worktop n walls to have. We did buy black worktops but they are so hard to make them look nice, so blacks got to go. I would be grateful of any help. Thx.

Cashmere popular. Mine being fitted this week. I have chosen real wood worktop and upstand. Plain Glass splashback behind hob and oxide emerald green floor tiles. Just for something different. Walks mmm not sure……something muted. Small kitchen but bright! Ideas… don’t hate me re floor 😳
