Taking any thoughts and advice for our basement bath tile. It’s a large bathroom but no windows. I’m not sure if I should go light/bright to downplay the fact that there are no windows or darker to make it feel cozy? The rest of our home is a farmhouse feel. The floors throughout the basement will be a wirebrushed french oak of light tone. Thank you in advance!

I would go light but also be generous with lighting to brighten up the space

Thanks Claire. The plan is three wall sconces, 5” can lights over toilet and shower as well as one in the entryway so hopefully that will be enough!

    Sorry, meant 4” can lights.

Definitely light and bright. Plan for LEDs in bright white 3000 levels for clearest, light. Carrera look alike porcelain tiles would be classic. Lots of wonderful options. Choices only limited by budget. Good luck.

Three (minimum) , cans in the middle of the space, FAN light combo over toilet, three sconces. Slate or similar on floor, white vanities, over scale white subway shower walls,

Thank you everyone. Jan, I have added an additional Can light in the center of the room today per your recommendations. For this large of a bathroom, do you think that the encaustic cement pattern tiles would be too busy on this large of a area? I am planning to go with white subway for the shower.

I love the look of the encaustic patterns, but they are busy. Are you thinking for the floor? Perhaps with a black and white overall color palette in the room, this would be a nice look.

This black and white combo is nice. For you I wouldn't do black cabinetry I don't think. Just depends on other final choices.

I would go light. I would never do a dark bathroom. Bathrooms need to feel bright and clean. Dark and cozy is for other spaces like a bar or lounge, a piano room, a reading room, a library or office, dining rooms to some degree, but not bathrooms.

Depending the size of your bath the pattern can make it feel larger.

I ordered some samples, I think this cement tile looks too busy. I ordered one in a lighter gray which has less contrast.

I would choose a tile that is very similar in tone to the flooring in the rest of the basement. They could still have an interesting pattern or layout. That way the transition will feel seamless which makes a space feel larger.

Given this is a basement bathroom, have you considered under floor heating. If you are in a colder climate, that would be really great feature. I still think the print on the floor brightens and brings a lot of interest to a closed in space.

Maybe you should just put some hay down to finish off your "farmhouse feel". Also, don't be an online bully Briana. It's not nice. Didn't that comment just make you feel crappy? So don't do it to other people. It makes you look like an assholewhen I'm sure you are a perfectly decent human being. You're also setting a bad example for your children, if you have children. Good luck on your home. I'm sure it will be beautiful no matter what you ultimately pick for your tiles. As long as you like it, that's all that really matters.

Where the heck did this commenter come from

Left field apparently. My experience of Briana is that she's always really nice on other people's posts.

I read through post as I am staring bathroom too ....Briana did not say anything negative????????????

Briana - please ignore rude postings. I know it is hard and unfortunately some seem to enjoy this. Back to your flooring. I still like your idea for the printed flooring. Your space can handle it. There are loads of choices out there. Try a few more. I think the interest will be just what this room needs.

Briana. Ignore ignorant commenters. So sad. I found a couple inspirational photos for you. I still like your idea of the patterned tiles. They will bring interest to an otherwise boring space. Both of these bathrooms look smaller than yours. Find sime different patterns and try those out. This could give a windowless bathroom personality. Be brave!

Also I just saw mschump’s comment and have no idea what she’s referring to! =P thank you for the support everyone!

Flo I really wanted to go cement tile! In the end the budget won out as we had to rip out our waterproofing in the shower and that ate into our funds :( these tiles were about 1/4 the cost but I still dream of cement tile!!!

Well, it looks really nice and surely understand budget realities! Sorry you had waterproofing issues. Seems that is going around! But in the end you have a great additional bathroom -- yea!!!
