Do these chairs go together?

I’m not sure what the rules are for dining chairs, but we have narrowed down our choices to these. We bought two of the gray to test out and we loved them. Originally I thought they would be end chairs and we would find something else for the sides. However we have seen these chairs as the side chairs in a couple designers pictures. Would it looks silly to have the all wood chairs as the end chairs instead? I really love the all wood ones too, but I worry about there being too much wood if we do them as the side chairs.

Though they are both attractive chairs, they really don't play well together. The curved chair is 32" high..........that's 2" above the table top.

The Magnolia chair is 42" high, 12" above the table top.

The finishes don't complement one another either.

The chairs seem that they would work well together. Is there legroom at the ends of the table?

One problem is that your curtains aren't full enough for the wide window. Houzz might have a formula but I found one here: http://www.ehow.com/way_6038775_many-should-hung-double-window_.html. Also, try this: remove the tie backs and let the curtains fall naturally. That should help a little with the fullness. Then buy pillows that bring in those colors. You can also add color to that bookcase by painting it the same color as the wall for a more built-in look. Add more collectibles or books to the shelves. Then find a large graphic poster for that long wall. Next pull the sofa and chairs closer to the fireplace so that they have at least two feet on the rug. Pull the end table closer to the furniture. Drop the picture on the right of the window down about 5". It's way too high.

A large area rug, an end table in between the two chairs with a lamp on it. The two niches on either side of the fireplace could use a console table or cupboard of sorts with some items on them like lamps or greenery. I would also set up something inside of the fireplace opening such as a rack with birch wood or a cool iron multi candle holder. Bring in some color, greenery, lighting. You have a good start.

Susiem14, I think this room looks lovely and cosy and like your fireplace. I would add a few bits in cream and fawn/grey. Please don't be offended by the comment above... Everybody is different and we all have different budgets! I have recently changed my lounge to be neutral tones - still working on the cushions but sending you a photo of my new rug - was from Dunelm Mill - not expensive at all but v pleased with it.

I highly recommend (for anything you are considering purchasing) you look at the on line review and comments. Do a search putting in the name of the chairs and then "reviews" and see what people who have purchased them say about them. Might save you from a bad purchase if the reviews are mainly negative.

Hi Yasmin,

Too much wood either keep the grey ones and do 2 head and host tall in white or something other than all wood OR keep the wood as head and host and do some farm house iron or white/grey linen as the side chairs. Hope that helps! - Anna

Use the grey chairs. The table doesn’t have enough overhang for end chairs.

I like both styles, but I don't think they work together. I find the height differences disconcerting :)

As others mentioned, there isn't room for end chairs (unless this table has some type of pull out/flip out leaf?)

With this table I'd personally be inclined to use the gray chairs you've selected.

Is the floor wood or tile? Will there be an area rug?

I love both chairs but agree that the heights of the backs are disconcerting when near each other.......

If you use one for the ends of the table and the other for the sides, then, yes, they'll work together. If I were choosing one or the other, cost being approximately equal, pick the more comfortable. Just from looking at the two of them, the one with the padded seat and the lower padded back looks as if it would be the more comfortable -- especially if your family enjoys board games and/or jigsaw puzzles and/or will be sitting around the table for extended times for other reasons.

Suezbell, the straight and curved legs on the chairs fight visually and the heights are a real problem.

No, they don't. Neither one of those chairs are dining room chairs.

Thank you for all the advice. I’m thinking we are just gonna go with the gray chairs because they are comfy and continue to look for something else for the ends. This is one of the designers I saw use the table and chairs.

BeverlyFLADeziner I love that buffet/console table. It reminds me of the chair and maybe I can get my fix that way.

Our floors are wood and yes I will be getting an area rug.

I've seen country kitchen/dining areas where none of the chairs match. What you use is purely a matter of taste. Personally, I wouldn't place these two, with different angled legs, side by side along the longer sides of the table and expect them to work well.

Cost and space (curved legs take up more room) not being an issue, my inclination would be to go with only the more comfortable of the two -- something you really cannot tell until you sit in them -- though the cushioned one does look more comfortable to me.

Alternately, with this somewhat rustic table, and depending upon your overall style preference -- you might consider using four short or two longer benches for the longer sides of the table -- something like these but with a wood finish that matches your table:

Or build your own benches, if you're DIY inclined.

A couple ideas. I don’t recommend a bench. Very uncomfortable and not as functional as some think. Stick with your curved back chairs.

I've actually sat in the taller chair and it's not a comfortable chair for any extended period of time.
