Comments (5)Re: black granite------ I'm not a pro or anything, but we put a home depot grade black granite as our vanity top in a bathroom and the spots and finger prints do drive me crazy, and I'm the last person to call a neat freak. It never seems clean. I was recently at floor and decor looking at granite (dreaming of finishing a basement) and saw a honed black granite that looked really nice if your heart is set on black. I've seen that (honed black) in a kitchen in a luxury home and it looks extremely nice. It's a bit more expensive, but worth considering if choosing between black granites. Personally, I'm more of a marble fan and have marble in the kitchen. It's more high maintenance (meaning, you just have to use common sense and not treat it like you did in college). I've also owned a home with silestone and that is one durable and tough stone....See MoreAny Help with updating kitchen greatly appreciated
Comments (27)Hi guys, Leelee we are definitely doing the vintage bits on the wall. We actually have some vintage cereal boxes that we are planning on displaying on the shelves (filled with cereal of course)!. Sarainitaly - I'm investigating thenIkea planner but it's painful to work (or maybe it's just me!). Here's a pic of the walls totally painted green now. Think the shelves will look great along with some pictures dotted around. It's the cabinets now that will b a pain! BTW it was pure enthusiasm that stopped me waiting until the water heater came off the wall to paint - lol. I will have to paint the patch when it's off....See MoreAny suggestions for finishing my kitchen/living room

Comments (9)Every manufacturer that I know of in the U.S. makes a metal piece to cover the space in the back of a true slide in range. If you are having new countertops installed, then you would have a piece of countertop cut for behind a slide in range and install a support piece for it to sit on (2x4 nailed onto the wall). Then it looks continuous around it. I have never seen a true slide in range that didn't have a lip on each side and the back that is supposed to sit on top of the surrounding counters and close up any gaps. Makes me wonder if the cabinets or countertops in this kitchen were raised for some reason so that they are higher than the range. Ranges have adjustable legs, but they can only adjust so far....See MoreUser
