North facing garden

Hi everyone,

Me and my boyfriend are looking at buying a new house with a north facing garden. On all the sides of the garden there are concrete walls which separate the property from its neighbors.

Would this be something that would stop you from buying a house?

Are there any tricks that i could use to maximize the light in the garden?

The first ideas that come to mind are painting the concrete walls in a warm cream color for example, i could improvise and paint one wall with a softer orange or green color etc.

I would greatly appreciate your advice and any suggestions.

We are getting a patio done this spring and I would really like to tile it. We live in the Mid-West of Ireland (plenty of rain) and I have a north facing garden so the patio space will only get sunlight in the afternoon/evening. I would like to tile this outdoor space but a lot of people said it'll be slippy, they'll wear badly and they're just not suitable for an Irish climate. I'm looking at porcelain tiles (frost resistant) that are r11 so suitable (on paper) for outdoors, but would love some advise from anyone that has outdoor tiles and if it's worth it! Thank you

I live in a captail city and I'm soon moving into an apartment with a 400 square foot/38 square meter (north facing) garden. For a city center (and for someone who has only ever had a balcony) this feels like a lot of space! I want to do something really special (maybe a sauna and a fire pit), but what would you do if you had a mostly sunless city garden to play with? Hot tub? Chicken coop? Trampoline? Art shed? I'm looking for fun ideas that inspire me (and then I'll worry about budget and planning approval). Thanks!
