BM Pelican Gray -- PURPLE?!? BLUE?!?! Anyone use this color?

6 years agoYou mention that you have Collingwood in the main part of your house. As this is a greige it may be that the comparison is throwing you off. Pelican gray may go a bit on the purple side in certain light but is a very lovely light gray that should go well with your Collingwood. I think white bedding would look beautiful with this color and be very soft and serene. A slight blue or purple undertone in the bedroom is very pretty I think! I am sure you will like it when everything goes back in.

Comments (8)Thanks Chemayne, yes, that is correct re: position of the bed. There is a small bedroom behind where the bed is currently and ultimately i'd like to turn it into a walk in robe. That's funny, i never considered the grey bed to be masculine, although my mum didn't like it so maybe that should have been a clue! I keep coming back to it though, but not too sure if it is too low for the room. Unfortunatley there doesn't seem to be many grey beds around to compare it with. As for those pictures, thank you. However i don't think any of them are my taste. They are all a bit busy i think. I like the white trim which i am going to get done. I think from these i'm leaing towards Ighter coloured walls as well. I think the blue walls on number 1 is a bit much and no:4 with different curtains would be okish too....See MoreHelp with a boring bedroom
Comments (23)Adding width BEHIND THE BED - with a headboard (which doesn't have to be a "headboard"; it could be fabric, collection of mirrors, collection of pictures, a farm gate!, small chairs or stools) across the entire width. Matching bedside tables/bookcases/chests/ with LAMPS - useful storage for extra books, extra bedding, etc. CURTAINS always warm up a room. People will always feel colder away from home - provide an extra blanket or duvet to add to the bed. I notice there is no WARDROBE. Not really necessary for overnight guests (provide hooks on the back of the door) but useful for storing your out-of-season coats, etc. There is plenty of room behind the door. Comments (8)Hello there... I hope I can be of some help as I have almost an identical sitting room - I will just share with you my sitting room this year!! All the walls started out in Dulux Timeless colour so I wanted to add an accent colour- like you, I have one end of the room that is patio doors. So the opposite wall to those, I chose as an accent wall - I know a lot of people suggest not having an accent wall but perhaps having horizontal painted stripes of colour etc... But as I was doing the painting, I knew I would have made a real hash of that!! So the third pic is my first attempt at an accent wall - The Greene Paint company - colour Bassalt. This was nice but I just got bored of it - it worked well against the richness of the wood floor etc and was very much a statement but in a few months I just couldn't settle with it. After several coats of white I have now settled on Farrow & Balls colour Lamp Room Grey. I know this seems all very neutral, but from the second photo you will see I have gone for cream curtains with neutral vertical pom-poms - but, by doing all this, I can now change the accent colour in this room at the drop of a hat and quite importantly - INEXPENSIVELY! For instance, if I wanted to, for Xmas, if I was going to spend a lot of time in that room, I could a. Go for red and cream cushions and create a Scandinavian look! Or b. Go for silver beaded cushions and silver candle jars and have a winter wonderland look! And equally in the summer, I could go for pastel pink floral cushions and a vase of delicate roses to bring the garden into the sitting room or just keep it neutral with ivory roses and a hint of lime green. So my advice would be to keep the expensive things neutral and then you can alter the in expensive things as you go along. I also think one expensive piece in any room is a good investment - be it a huge oversized pewter bowl or a something similar - that again is neutral in colour but is a statement piece. 6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoPelican Gray 1612 (hue angle 233°) is blue. Like in the middle-ish zone of the blue hue family. That's for sure blue. Perceptually over closer to the purple-blue hue family than blue-green. Which is why there may be moments of purple overtones too.
Graytint 1611 (hue angle 162°) belongs to the green hue family.
Using the hue angle ° and this color wheel you can see where they "live" in color world.
I personally would not put these two colors, Pelican Gray and Graytint, together. And, yes, I know they are on the same strip in the fandeck.
This is a lesson many people learn the hard way. Just because colors are on the same strip doesn't mean they 'go together', doesn't mean they are from the same hue family, it doesn't mean anything. So when someone tells you to look at the darkest color on the strip at the bottom to see what "undertones" all the other colors on the strip have, you know they're full of beans and you should NOT listen to their advice about anything color.
Will it look "okay". Odds are it will because their hue families, green and blue, "live" next to each other in color world. A lot will depend on the light too.
What I would have done differently is chosen two near neutral grays from the same hue family - either blue or green. And that's a smidge more work vs. choosing two colors from the same chip strip.

6 years agoI’m finding I’m horrible with color, My husband jokes that I’m colorblind! So my apologies for all of these follow up questions, I am just so afraid of making the wrong decision. My husband is hating the way Coventry looks in our downstairs powder room, so I want to make sure I get this right because It ends up being an expensive mistake since we are paying painters to do the work. Here are a few pictures of gray tint up against my tile...what do you think?

2 years agoHi Debra! it’s pretty amazing how different paint looks (especially gray!!) in differnt light. Last night, the Pelican Gray looked quite different in less light- like a putty clay color- but warm. i think that’s what Pelican Gray is- a warm gray. I’ve atrached photos from a few minutes ago this morning. it’s really growing on me. I live in New York City, so you’ll see lots of buildings out the windows of my dining room! Keep me posted on your choice!
