The 'inglenook' fireplace - reminds me of my grandparents home where we would all congregate for high tea once a month. However, I have come across them in Scotland and in Cornwall, so perhaps they are more a 'Celtic' thing!

A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.

I think limestone falls under "mochas, neutrals and white" so has and will age well in terms of trends etc. Would love to hear other's suggestions!

Looking for opinions on what people think. We are completely revamping our kitchen as I don’t think it was well designed for the apartment and makes the rest of the room look dark. Appreciate any feedback of the mock up design. Going with: A blend of wood to brighten, Charcoal for the back cupboards and island end Counter top is a dark brown gloss stone.
