Blinds, curtains... help!

3.4 high ceiling with three windows. Walls are deep (750mm)
Should I go with one big dramatic curtain or individual blinds?
All help and thoughts much appreciated!

Blinds would be better as you will retain that really nice architectural feature of the recessed windows . You would be basically covering the wall with fabric . A large window would make sense if you want to do that way . The space would look so much smaller with a large fabric curtain across that wall which seems already quite dark ( from your photo ).I would imagine that is why the window above was installed .

You could always keep the binds that you have, and add a curtain in a side swipe to dress it up a bit more. So the blinds will control the light and the curtain is decorative.

Hello Jen, I am so surprised that no one has mentioned vertical blinds to you? They are very much back in fashion and work beautifully in a room such as yours. They come in 3.5" veins, which mean they will fold back and tuck into each recess when fully open. They turn to let as much light in as you need and then close when you want full privacy. They will be fitted in the recess above the windows. You can either have one complete rail length or two so you have a separate section over the door. You can have what's know as a middle split, i.e: half goes left and right. Personally I would suggest one length that opens to the left, therefore leaving your door completely uncovered when open. The pulley system is very much like a roller blind and are safety fixed to the wall so children can not get caught in them. They come in a huge rang of colours and materials and better still they are very affordable. I am working with a number of new developments in Hertfordshire at the moment and these are what the clients are all asking for. Need some help choosing window dressings for my living room, pinch pleat curtains or roman blinds? I think curtains are more luxurious but they will cover wainscoting in the window & hang behind the sofa so a bit annoying for opening & closing. Any advice/suggestions on colour, fabric, texture, solid or pattern would be great and also any other suggestions for the room too

Hi Marie Claire - an option for these windows could be Plantation Shutters. They can be fitted recessed in against the window pane so you would not lose your window sills. Also you have options of different colours depending on whether you need to brighten the room. I've attached sample photos from one of our installations in Malahide, Co Dublin - where you can see the windows are similar to yours and the client has made a feature from the deep set windows.

I'd like the shutters option above (nice example pics!) but I'd probably go for solid shutters & keep them open during the day because the example above just block too much light for me!

In M-C Bennett's case, seeing as it appears to be a dark room, I'd go for solid shutters on the bottom & just leave the top window as a feature, uncovered window!

Downside of shutters is, yes, you keep the use of your windowsill, but you have to remove everything to open & close them! Nothin wrong with a nice neat deep velour curtain either!!

You could get "top down, bottom up" pleated blinds.. that way you have less bulk and more light reflection..
