What is not working in this living room
Comments (12)Hi there, If you are looking to create an opulent feel then we recommend looking at Traditional Interiors and taking points from these and applying these to your contemporary living space. Chandeliers always work well to create the feeling of grandeur and in a room of this size you appear to have space for a small chandelier in the centre of the room. https://www.pavilionbroadway.co.uk/designer-lighting/ceiling-lights/hanging-lights/impero-solid-brass-gold-plated-chandelier-16708.html I would also look at the following points to create the feel of opulence: 1. wall colour - either paint the walls in a Rich Red tone of incorporate a Damask or Faux Silk Wallpaper by Zoffany https://www.pavilionbroadway.co.uk/designer-wallpaper/zoffany-wallpaper-silk-plain.html 2. Flooring - the tiles will not give you that "cozy feel" as these would be more ideal for a kitchen area. Therefore it would be better to replace these with Wooden floorboard and then a Rug. We provide some beautiful hand made persian rugs and supply for any room dimension and colour:https://www.pavilionbroadway.co.uk/persian-new-traditional-mahal-rug-13769.html 3. Lighting : Incorporate a Chandelier to create the opulent look & feel 4. Sofas - Leather sofas can be very comfortable but they are best in a snug room as they take away from the elegant formal look of a living room. Duresta are a UK brand which create their sofas inspired by pieces found in National Trust Properties, therefore we would recommend looking at 2 new sofas and an upholstered coffee table for the centre of the room. https://www.pavilionbroadway.co.uk/luxury-furniture/shopby/brand-duresta.html Attached is a quick sketch of what we could do. Comments (16)The pictures you have above the sofa would serve you better if displayed in a hallway or foyer or even in a larger collection of photos in a family room. You definitely need more color in this room and a larger area rug. The sofa and wall colors look the same on my computer, so I suggest you paint the walls a color that will make the sofas stand out more. I also would suggest you find a much larger, print area rug that contains an accent color and center it in the room. Perhaps you could find a large, colorful picture to serve as wall art and also as the inspiration for the color scheme and especially for the accent color I suggested. In addition to the rug, you could use the accent color in throws and throw pillows to be placed on the sofas. I also would like to suggest that you add a wide piece of white-painted trim above the windows/patio doors (whatever) and attach the metal rod to this piece of trim. The trim will add emphasis to the glassed-in space as well as to the dark-colored rod and curtains....See MoreIdeas for Living Room
Comments (1)You said you bought a new cream Queen Anne chair , so is that in addition to the striped one as well? IF yes, then you may be tied into a purple/brown/gold theme. The black furniture will work in the room. IF you are replacing the striped chair with the off white Queen Anne , then you could do purple/ gray/ black colors. Here are some inspiration ( color wise) photos: Purple with brown Purple with gray/black. I think an area rug will tie all your colors together , so find a large one that works in the color scheme you choose....See Moreliving room inspiration
Comments (0)Hi there, I recently moved into a new house and am searching for inspiration for how to decorate my new living room. It has a cast iron tiled fire place from 1880 which will stay. It has high ceilings with picture rail detail. It is south facing and sunny but we plan to mainly use the room in the evenings as a grown up retreat from the chaos of family life. It also needs to accommodate the tv and storage for lots of books! We will probably keep the carpet which is light colored and neutral but everything else can be new, paint curtains, sofa, furniture. It’s a blank canvas apart from the fireplace. I would like a fairly contemporary style rather than traditional but I am not sure how that will work with the old fireplace. Would love to hear some ideas! Thank you!...See MoreDanni
