Tiny utility room

Hi everyone!!

This utility room is just wide enough for a stacked washer&dryer and a hot press to the left. There is the same space at the front however I don't know how to use it as I need to have doors on my hot press on the back left. How to I put that space to the front to the best use? ... I've thought of open shelving and double door hinged press. What do you think? It's right at the back door so I ideally wanted a good floor to ceiling press for coats and dirty workboots etc. I look forward to your thoughts!!! Thanks, lorna

Hello Lorna,

So you have mentioned workbooks so how about somewhere for coats and jackets a cloakroom area.. :))

Great idea. It's a bit smaller than I initially though but it's a useful area so I just want it to be really functional. Thanks!!!

The only way to do this involves moving some cabinets. There is a lot of vertical space available opt 1) remove the upper cabinets near the window. Place the freezer on top of counter. Use the former freezer area to build in shoe cubbies. opt 2) Move the tall pantry cabinet up. Underneath the pantry cabinet, build in shoe cubbies. opt 3) move the freezer up to meet the bottom of the upper cabinets. Put she storage underneath freezer. You'll need to replace the counter with a smaller counter that will be over the washer and dryer only.

Might be an expensive option but could you create a short (?glass) external corridor from the dining area into office by going outside the existing wall, ie come outside of the dining area and turn right into the office by putting a door where you have a window in the 1st plan. I don’t know how that would work with where your patio doors are. Maybe you could shift them to the right, have a short section of wall to the left of them and then a doorway (poss no door needed) between that and the corner of the dining/utility/office

Hello Lorna,

Most welcome! Even a small space can be really functional if it's well thought out. Also consider the height of the room as you can maximise this aspect even if there's not a lot of square footage.. :))
