How to fit a dark color furniture into a light color room

Hi all. The room and my house has light beige walls and light wood tiles with ivory white baseboard, doors, shelves. However we received a bed as a gift. The bed is a dark oak wood bed. I have attached the photo of the bed. I have researched Houzz that almost all rooms that has dark furnitures either has dark floors or dark walls. I really need advice on how to fit this bed into the room. Thank you!

Contrast is a good thing! Sounds like it will look great in there- beds should be a statement. Love the white bedding idea too. If you need to ground it, you could do that with a rug, but even that can be on the lighter side- maybe a subtle tonal pattern. Or add a small side chair in the corner that ties in with the wood bed. Even a dark wood box sitting on a light dresser would connect visually...Doesn't take much.

Yellows/creams/ whites/ and grays are very fresh right now. The gray can range from light silver to charcoal, but it won't take away from bright and airy feel, because it really makes the yellows and creams stand out.

I think it can be stunning! I agree with cabinets to the ceiling except use cdrown molding for the English look you desire. By all means good lighting however to achieve the look do not use harsh lighting. Have dimmers and have a smallish lamp on one of your countertops for ambient lighting. I do suggest Carrera marble if you go grey or hammered stainless (to resemble pewter) if you go dark blue for your countertops and pl;ease consider hanging some antique mirror. I have a wonderful photo of a tiny deep blue kitchen and cannot seem to lay my hands on it. If I find it soon I will post it for you. I hope you will go for it and post photos! Hope this helps. :)

Hi Zoe, I think I would have to agree with your sister! The right grey will look warm, whilst giving the room a fresh, clean feel. Farrow&Ball do some lovely ones, have a look at Elephant's Breath or Pavilion Grey. This colour scheme with wooden floors (natural or painted) would look wonderful. Injections of colour could then be added with soft furnishings. Hope this helps!

Agree with alant1000 about starting from scratch, but not sure about white. They are some lovely either light grey, light green, or light caramel, which will keep the room warm feeling, and less stark. The wallpaper feature wall you presently have is far too dark for the room - if you want wallpaper, there are some lovely sparkle designs, or stick to paint and do a slightly darker colour than the chosen wall colour. Have you thought about painting the doors white? The dark curtains do not help either. Do you need curtains and vertical blinds? If you lost the curtains, the window would look neater and lighter. Hope this helps.
