This is a Showplace Wood Product- Renew project. My client's wish was to lighten up the kitchen. The existing cherry cabinets did not match the terracotta floor tile that she wanted to keep. She didn't like the cantilever counter top at island, so I add another cabinet to fill the space. Then added bead-board panel over top on end. The existing cabinets were custom and good quality, so we decides to reface with new Showplace's Covington doors in a Linen with Carmel Glaze to match her existing terracotta floor tiles. The client desperately needed a counter top somewhere for additional seating for guest to keep them out of the kitchen. View more project photos at Wyland Interior Design Center.

Thank you! I forgot to mention that the the back splash behind the stove is recessed niche into wall creating a shelf. This inside sill of the niche was tiled with a pebble mosaic. You sure can't tell this by the photo.

fragle0 ... congratulations on the new addition to your family. Have been following your lovely changes. You probably won't have time to work on the decor for a while. Just wanted to suggest that you try pulling the nesting tables forward to be more in line with front of the chairs & placing your floor lamp to the back of them. This will give a bit more light at night for reading in that area.Also switching the plant by the fireplace & the one on the corner by the sofa.

Here are a few different ways to have track lighting in kitchens with vaulted ceilings: I especially like the ones that mount the tracks to the beams, like "Magnolia contemporary kitchen" and "Green remodel," but as you see, there are many different ideas. Hope this helps!

To put hob on kitchen island or not to put hob on kitchen island?

Hi amfork, I went ahead & put the hob on my island & am delighted I did. I find it really is so much nicer looking out at the kids/my husband & being able to chat to them while I prepare meals as opposed to facing the wall with my back turned on everyone. I put a 4 ring induction hob on the island & put a 5 ring gas hob on counter facing wall. I did this as I have a large extended family & we frequently have get togethers. It’s great for catering for big events. However, I use the 4 ring induction hob on a daily basis. Hope this helps! Best of luck with your project, Claire

The feedback I'm hearing from my client's is that the wood is much warmer for resting their arms and elbows on and not as cold as granite or quartz.

The makeover looks great. I would replace the silk flowers and vines above the cabinets with something less dated. Also, painting the walls would look great and would give the kitchen needed color.

Yes, I agree with pwrm12. Sometimes you can only make suggestions to the client. It boils down to what the clients wants in the end, it is their home.

We peeled all the bark off and left the rough edge, sanded it to get the sharp edges off and then lacquered it.

The copper hood blended well with the terracotta floor tile. The cherry cabinets were far too red. It was a really hard for the client to make the decision of eliminate the beautiful cherry wood doors. In the end, she wanted a lighter brighter kitchen.
