I love the stepping stone pathways. Have the stones been especially cut to size or were they bought like that. If so, where can I find them? Thanks!

Hi all, We are at construction stage of our new build and now need to decide/bottom out on the stair design. I've attached the plans and also a recent photo of the project. The interior curved wall will be constructed with the same stone as the outside and will cover from ground floor to 1st floor ceiling level. Our intention is to have an open thread design in order to allow the stone be seen - the thought is that we will have a single steel support with timber steps. The handrail and side of stairs is very much open for discussion/suggestions. I've seen loads of different options on the website however I'm still struggling to decide. I'd love to hear some fresh ideas from yourselves - the finish of the interior will be very much contemporary/modern. Thanks in advance for reading my post and helping out. Colin

Hi @mjdpower, My suggestion is to go to a couple of floor specialist and ask as they may come up with something different. Whatever you do keep in consideration the size of the room and think on a long term: a poor quality finish could effect your property price in a space as important as the kitchen. I will try something that allow you to go back to your original tiles floor if things do not work out the way you want them to go. A cheap way is to cover the tiles with vinyl and here is how to do it: http://www.doityourself.com/stry/how-to-install-vinyl-flooring-over-ceramic-tiling#b the adhesive should not stain or damage the tiles (ask the manufacture before doing it anyway!) and you have a large choice of design and colours. Paint tiles could be another option, not my favourite but an option. I found this blog where Curry Kay describe step by step how she's did it. ' Decking design and new entrance'

We have been living here 2 years and desperately want to complete our home. We want to match a new extension onto the existing property. To the front on the left we want a single storey extension. This will have decking coming out of the patio doors , which will have a glass border and there will be sapce underneath for a an apartment. The idea is to wrap the decking to make our new entrance so that we can get rid of our ugly steps up to the house. Our question is how we match the look of the house with appropriate materials/glass/stone...? We are open to a very modern look and would appreciate to get some feedback. If anyone has done somthing similar we would love to see pictures.

so this is the door step I'm left with!! I lived the stone step but hate the door saddle!! its a trip hazard as well as ugly!! what ideas are front door entrance out there to change this
