We are building a house and are at the flooring selection phase. The main level will have hardwood floors. The stairway to the lower level will be adjacent to the hardwood. I don't particularly want carpet in the basement and was considering vinyl plank flooring in the lower level
I don't know how to treat the stairs leading down to the lower level . I would like the saftey/softness of carpet, but think this isolated swath of carpet will not look right. Any suggestions or thoughts?
Have you thought about possibly putting matching hardwood end caps along the walls and a carpet runner up the center. This is a nice way to carry the wood through and also introduce the carpet without making it stand alone!
Thank you! Would the stair be totally finished in hardwood and a runner placed on top or is this a different installation? I hope I am clear in what I am asking.
This can be done either way. We usually base this on what type of runner you want to go with. If it is a finished edge runner I would almost always recommend a full wood step. If it is a more traditional carpet, that is lets say continuing from the second floor, an end cap installation looks great if done properly.
