I prefer silver but without rounding both sides . May be you can change?

I prefer the rounded one but think some colorful/interesting art would be a better bet.

Hi Snan, I prefer the vintage/rounded one to the square one (it's too linear combined with your wallpaper). I think the wallpaper is really lovely, but your fireplace mantle is actually in conflict with it. It feels too modern next to the wallpaper. Your hearth looks very pretty (granite?) and I think with a more elegant, white mantle your room would really look quite lovely. And there would be a cohesiveness with the bedroom you're working on! (Just a bonus....). If changing your mantle is not an option, then I would put a large round mirror with a silver border (without too much detail) or go with artwork instead.

The more vintage rounded one if hung on the wall not sitting on mantle as it is not joining well. Then put a topper board on mantle in black that is larger (thicker and wider) than the current top so that it extends out. Otherwise I agree artwork may be an option.

A Starburst mirror would be perfect there!

Thanks all for the suggestions. I brought back the silver rounded mirror and haven't replaced it so very much open to suggestions as I can't seem to find one that suits! Mainly because I can't decide on color. The wallpaper color is difficult to identify however it looks like champagne. Would gold or silver go? I don't have any white in the room so not sure about white...Thank you!

They are both beautiful but two different styles. The fireplace is very contemporary and non descript. The square mirror is 1920-30 Art Deco. The rounded mirror is more Old fashioned. Not sure it goes with your modern style. My problem is the wallpaper. You already have a shiny surface. I'd prefer replacing the wallpaper or adding a painting rather than mirror.

Which do you prefer? You seem to gravitate more to silver, so that's the direction I would go. Plus, it will have a brighter look, while gold will feel more formal. I would not put a white mirror over the mantle. Too stark a contrast. BTW, mantles are one of the easier things to replace and I would paint it the color of your floorboards. :)

I would be leaning towards either a champagne colour starburst mirror or one of these guys...(attached). Would have no idea what sort of art to put up there! :-)

If that is your mirror try it over the fireplace and take a pic. Also, I searched starburst mirrors on houzz. Lots of examples shown hanging over a fireplace. Is there a particular look you are going for? What are you doing furniture-wise in that room? Typically one does furniture first, accessories second so as to 'marry' them (though I have been known to do an entire room around a painting, so......)

I saw these on the Ethan Allen website and they reminded me of your room. The table is silverleaf, and well, there are a few starburst mirrors to choose from, but for your room I like the big one in the middle.

Do either of these two work? Running out of ideas but can change these if any better suggestions. Excuse the messy room... :-)

I think you need a richer mirror to add some contrast with the wallpaper. I like the size of the rectangular one that you had as an option but I would try to find one with a rich frame maybe a black lacquer, that will work with the black granite (it looks like granite to me) you have in the fire place. Silver leaf finish or plain mirror is too much like the background you loose it.

Hi Snan, I think the one on the right will work better in the room. It's pretty, has interest without being overwhelming, and is the right proportion. I also like how the mirror portion is larger as well. Looks good to me. :) The one on the left is very unique, but it takes over the room rather than complimenting it.

Here are some ideas. Hope it helps to inspire you.

The first one is more stylish. The other one is more old world. There again, you can go with a different mirror, as some have suggested and use the other two mirrors on other walls to give your room a larger affect. I think that a round mirror with the squared off fireplace would look lovely.

Just a suggestion: I think I would go with a solid wall color and not wall paper. Bring a little color in the room as well. Put a cozy chair next to the fireplace. Some candles on the mantel and a vase or two is really all you need. Enjoy!

If it comes down to those two choices, the swirl does look better.

Snan, The bottom oval one in Eskandari's photos would also work in your room (or something like that). The oval shape visually gives height to the room which would work for you as well. I know that shopping around can sometimes be exhausting, but if you were up for the search that would be another option if you're not sure about the round one you have already. I would also look for something that combines the elements of your wallpaper as well as your fireplace (if you are not planning on changing it) in order to bring those together, i.e. try to bring in the color tones of the two.

Whatever one you decide on, make sure it is not wider than the firebox opening for best balanced feeling.

no to a mirror here, it reflects the wall and door way....no good. something more elegant go with the wall paper. oh and fix your lamp shade lol.

You can also "marry" the fireplace, mirror and wallpaper through the accessories on the mantle in the way of wood and silver items.

Just a thought.....your fireplace would look so much better if you painted the wood.
