Jim was great! He is very meticulous and takes a lot of pride in his work. The quality is outstanding and he really makes you feel like you're his only client. I was lucky to find him! We hired him to build cabinets for a kitchen island and this was the first time we have ever done a home remodel project. He was very helpful and offered good advice. If you decide to hire him for a remodel I promise you won't be disappointed.

Jim came to my house to take a look at my laundry room, he quickly sized up what needed to be done! In a reasonable time frame,he transformed a mess into a working wash area with cabinets above the machines, providing the pantry my wife has wanted for years!! I was so pleased with his work I hired him to do more cabinets in my living room!! Friendly, professional service!

Jim was fabulous to work with. We had a very specific idea of what we wanted in terms of a built-in bookcase unit, and he delivered. We now have a beautiful space to put our books as well as some wonderful new closet hallway doors that he custom made. We hired JK Woodworks for a kitchen remodel since he was recommended by a pro we previously used. Initial request was for a kitchen island remodel and to vent a hood, but JK convinced us he could improve the look and functionality of our kitchen with new cabinet doors and custom made deep drawers for a reasonable price. We liked Jim's organization ideas, so we agreed and signed a contract. Although Jim did arrive on time for a week and a half, he only worked on the premises 5 hours a day and it became obvious he was cutting corners when we noticed shoddy work. We called him on it and although he corrected a few things, he became extremely rude when we asked for fixes and left the bulk of his mistakes for us to deal with. Emails usually had 30 bullet points of requested fixes. He commented we shouldn't expect much with a reface and that he was better at "building his own stuff from scratch" after we implored him to get the job done in a professional manner in time for our painter and counter top fabricators. Well it seems he's ill equipped to "build his own stuff" as well and we have many pictures to prove it. Attached are just a handful of examples of drawers with gaps, shims showing under cabinets, nails sticking out, gaps underneath cabinets and baseboards, etc. The last straw that led to us firing him was when he finally showed up to fix wavy cabinet openings and replace 2 short crowns he had put seams in 2 hours before paint was supposed to be sprayed on all our cabinet cases. Instead of fixing what we agreed to, we witnessed him cutting into the end of a freshly primed upper cabinet because he knew the door he had ordered wouldn't fit and thought he could force it. We had told him we had a warranty from the painter and not to touch any primed surfaces. The areas he was to fix had been left bare. We emailed him that night to not ever come back on the premises, but unfortunately, we had paid the balance for the job when Jim announced he was finished. Other subs realized that most of what he ordered or constructed did not fit properly in the space. The primer highlighted all these flaws. The painter was painting drawer fronts and cabinet doors off-site in his shop at this time as well. Jim delivered the drawer boxes but stacked them in the adjacent room instead of testing them. He had lacquered the insides of these drawers, but left them with sawdust which stuck to the lacquer. After demanding a refund for the $680 lacquer to to this, Jim sent it. Even the soft close hinges on cabinet doors were the incorrect size and all had to be replaced. Once our painter hung doors and attached drawer fronts on site we all noticed gaps in flat front drawers, cabinet doors that were too long, and open spaces that should have been closed. We had repeatedly asked JK to reskin insides of old cabinetry that would be visible all along and his response was that they would be hidden. Please see the attached pictures and you will see that this is false. He also wasn't honest about what he charged or the materials he used. We were charged for 8 hours a day when he was only there 5. Paying for drive time was never disclosed. We had requested maple and he used poplar. He delivered 2 left side cabinets. He actually affixed a baseboard trim to a cabinet because the trim was missing and tore through a ceiling to test for ducting when he could have cut a careful area so we could reuse the sheet rock. Thankfully, in the end our kitchen looks gorgeous because we hired a painter to lacquer all cabinetry who also happened to be a cabinet maker and he was able to remedy some of the worst problems. However, we had to pay extra for fixes and not everythingcould be corrected. For this reason, we filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and JK didn't even have the courtesy to respond to the complaint. He is in breach of contract for not finishing our job as specified before he was fired and he was paid in full. All the other subs we worked with were highly professional and skilled with the exception of JK. This individual was like Fred Flintstone with a club in our home which gives the contracting business a bad name. We are writing this to warn other prospective clients to stay away unless you are prepared for a hack job that you have to pay a real professional to correct.

I needed 52 finished shelf boards to fit out my home office with whole-wall bookshelves. Since I was using Rakks shelf brackets and wall standards, all I needed were the shelves the books sit on, rather than entire bookcases, so this was not the kind of thing you can just buy at a store. Jim Kesterton was a pleasure to work with. He responded promptly to emails, sent frequent progress updates, and worked with me to pick out the wood type and stain color. The whole job from start to finish only took about three weeks to deliver 370 square feet of finished surface (the shelves were finished top, bottom, and all edges but the back). When Jim delivered the boards to my house they were carefully packed, and he gave me some of the stain and lacquer to use in the future in case of accidents. The black stain finish came out smooth, hard, and shiny, perfect for bookshelves. I will definitely contact Jim again the next time I need some custom woodwork!

I worked with Jim on a small kitchen remodel for a home I was purchasing - Jim came highly recommended & is a true craftsman. He was punctual, responded in a timely manner and was very patient with me as I had numerous questions and concerns. Jim put my mind at ease and I was ready to pull the trigger - unfortunately, the home had severe septic issues that were going to be $15-30K to repair and the seller was unwilling to repair with a septic expert and wanted to use a jack of all trades contractor, I had to cancel my contract but without a doubt, had a closed I would have a beautiful kitchen designed by Jim with JK Woodworks & I'm sure I would have been delighted and then could have given a full 5 stars.
