Stephanie's House (second floor)

The conversion of this historic Victorian carriage house (a City of LA Monument) involved the remodel of the existing second floor into a new bedroom suite. The floor had been built as a hayloft, and had no existing finishes (except in the small closet that was converted into the bathroom) and included only one window and the barn-door originally used for loading hay. The new room is clad in new siding painted white (to provide a strong contrast to the first floor) and to brighten the room. The room borrows light from the windows in the adjacent bathroom and closet through a new wall clad in wood boards and translucent glass. The wood floor (although new to this house) is salvaged from local barns in California. The stainless steel door and hardware were custom fabricated by Condor Metals of Los Angeles.
