South Minneapolis Contemporary Bathroom Remodel

Designed by Interior Designer Elizabeth Bland Dark, dated finishes and an awkward layout had the owner of this 1912 2-story in South Minneapolis ready for a total remodel. The layout was improved by adding a half wall and cabinet to the end of the tub and replacing the bulky radiator with a low-profile unit. A custom glass shower shield allowed the homeowner to still access the tub/shower controls without getting into the shower – a big requirement! Travertine in a neutral creamy tone was selected for the floor with a polished taupe marble on the walls to reflect as much light as possible. The marble in the shower continues onto the vanity wall with a glass accent band hitting at the vanity backsplash. A furniture-style vanity in dark wood was designed and topped with Corian and a rectangular sink. The homeowner’s favorite feature, a heated floor, makes the space warm even in the chilly winter months. The newly remodeled bath has a spa-like feel, reflective of the owner’s personal style.
