Sophisticated Corner Condos
In designing this condo building in North Beach we sought to develop an unaffected yet unique exterior form that would give the corner a strong identity. To respond to the neighborhood’s context, we designed elements of the façade so that they step down from the higher corner elements to relate to the rest of the block’s lower residential scale. Contrasting materials of exterior plaster and wood siding rendered in different colors give the condominiums a layered effect and articulate the building’s various forms and planes. The round corner element relates to similar round bays on nearby corner buildings. All of the units have access to at least one exterior deck. Suspended steel canopies and exterior accent lighting further accentuate several of these decks, which provide an ideal outlook for views of Alcatraz and Angel Island in San Francisco Bay.
