Phantom Screens was asked to install retractable motorized screens on the back porch of a Florida home in order for homeowners to be able to spend additional time outdoors without having to worry about heat, sun`s glare, or bugs.
Although initially concerned that the shape of the lanai will result in committing to a permanent screen that would block the views and change the design of the exterior of the house, the homeowners were relieved to find out that Phantom Screens team was able to come up with a custom solution for delivering shade without altering the look of the residence. As there was no roof over a portion of the “U” shaped lanai, and as the round and tapered columns with capitals and bases protruded wider than the header beam of the structure, Phantom Screens team installed the screens’ housings outside of the columns. Leaving the tracks to free-hang to the deck, they then attached the tracks to the columns to ensure stability. In order to create an outdoor room protected from the sun and the bugs, they also designed an overhead roof system to completely enclose the space. Retracting out of sight when not in use, the screens maintain the views to the backyard.
The selected mesh of Phantom’s motorized Executive screens, Twitchell Super Screen 17x17, delivers comfort and protection at the touch of a button. Spanning 18 feet in length, the motorized screens are controlled with a Somfy wireless remote control and integrated into owner’s Control4 Home Automation System.
