Newport project

At this Newport home, we were asked to create a more defined entrance and add character to the garden, ensuring it was as pleasant to look onto from the house as it was to stroll through. The space had a few awkward challenges, including three access points, so we started by giving order to it using a structured geometric design of carefully placed sawn sandstone pavers. This was then softened with a mixture of flowers and foliage, including Murraya, Sweet Viburnum, Japanese Box, Irish Strawberry Tree, Chinese Star Jasmine, Rosemary, Blue Daze, Seaside Daisy, Persian Shield and Indian Hawthorn, or ‘Oriental Pearl’, bordered by clipped low Japanese box hedging. Advanced trees were strategically placed to frame views from all aspects of the house and a classic water feature pond was installed to provide a sense of balance, creating a soothing bubbling coming from water being trickled through an ornamental bell pot. The whole space was given new landscape lighting, improving access at night and further defining the simple colour palettes and soft textural contrasts between the hedging and stepping stones during the evening.
