The Owners of this 1910 era cottage asked for a dramatic kitchen that provided a visual and physical connection to their backyard. A new stairway to the basement was also required, and Sortun·Vos was able to turn a potentially clumsy necessity into an asset.
The stairway became a library, with built-in bookshelves lining the stairs and the center of the room became a cooking island and gathering spot for friends and family. Drama was added to the room through the use of bold colors that brought the feeling of the garden inside.
From the kitchen range, the Owners are now able to look through French doors to the well-tended garden beyond.
